Free Music Notes for Cosmic GameFree Music Review: I did not expect to like this... but i do! Hit: 5 Stars
I am a straight up hip-hop fan. Nothing else really appeals to me much. I heard this album when my g/f played it in my car once in a while. I started to like it. The songs started growing on me, to the point where I was the one who was wanting to listen to it! I like the fact that they use what I would call a hip-hop drum beat. But they put all different kinds of music over top of it. It usually sounds spacey and kind of psychodelic. The music is crisp and high quality. Not so much for if you really want to listen to something energetic to get you pumped up, but its more of chill music. Its really actually good for most any occasion and I even listen to it sometimes in the gym during my workouts! They incorporate musical styles from all over the world. I am now checking out some of their other albums after falling in love with this one. I recommend this to a fan of any kind of music. Cus as a hip-hop guy I really didnt expect to like this as much as I do so I dont doubt others will be the same as me!
Free Music Review: Another Classic Hit: 5 Stars
Context: I own a lot of music from Thievery Corp. , K&D, Moby's instrumental work, Rob Dougan and others. But of all the different kinds of "groove" I listen to and work to all day long, Thievery are my favorite artists / duo. If you own and enjoy the Mirror Conspiracy, you're going to love this IMO.
These guys are truly incredible the way they manage to integrate a wide variety of sounds into a completely seamless and natural sounding whole. This CD flows together as a single work probably better than any other that I own. And I own a ton of instrumental music. Urban, Jazz, Ethereal, you name it. It's just impossible to get sick of this music. It reveals something new almost every time I listen to it, which is not always true of modern instrumental music. Often it just fades away into the background after a while. Not this, however....
I don't often use the word "rewarding" in reference to music, but this CD qualifies in almost every respect. Worth every penny.
Free Music Review: Just Another Work Of Genius Hit: 5 Stars
After enjoying their other work for years, I never thought that TC could ever top what they had already done but I forgot that what we are talking about here are modern musical geniuses so the fact The Cosmic Game is an incredible body of work is no surprise. The fact that I think it actually tops all of the previous efforts by this Dynamic Duo is of course my humble opinion and I think that others will come to this conclusion sooner or later. There is a sense of maturity and purpose to The Cosmic Game which I did not feel with other TC releases which again I state unequivocably are amongst the most played recordings in my over 1,000 CD collection. Sometimes a work of music can become a work art and in this case TC have painted a masterpiece which Van Gogh, Michaelangelo or Da Vinci would be proud of. Do yourself a major favor whether or not you have ever hear of TC buy this CD, put it on and vbe prepared to be blown away.
Free Music Review: CD Is Amazing! Highly reccomended for all thievery fans! Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is awesome. I hadn't heard any of the songs until I went to their live concert in Vancouver. It was nice to hear them live, but once I got the CD and started to familliarize myself with the songs they got even better. I have Richest Man in Babylon, and Mirror Conspiracy along with some of their other mixed cds and I have to say that this is a refreshing progression in sound while staying true to their own original sounds.
Although the entire cd is amazing, I would have to say my favorite songs are:
Warning Shots (upbeat and full of energy while keeping a loungey vibe)
The Cosmic Gate & A Gentle Dissolve (very, very, mellow short tracks)
The Heart's a Lonely Hunter (David Byrne does a great job!)
and The Time We Lost Our Way
If you are a thievery fan, you should definately invest in this CD but be forewarned, it won't leave your CD player for a few weeks!
Free Music Review: FANTASTIC! Hit: 5 Stars
As a long-time Thievery Corp fan, the release of a new album from these guys always has me waiting with two feelings: will they produce another gem or release something destined to sit in the shadows of earlier, greater efforts? In short, I'm amazed at their ability to one-up themselves every single time. Cosmic Game is simply delicious from start to finish. Many artists thrive in relative obscurity on producing works that lend themselves to being late-night, post bar crawl-type CDs...the kind of stuff you put in the CD player when it's time to chill; in this far-reaching genre though, Thievery Corporation towers above all others. They're masters at this, and put together albums that leave me wondering time and time again, how on earth can they top themselves?
Cosmic Game is nothing short of a masterpiece. They've done it again.
