Free Music Notes for Cosmic GameFree Music Review: I say THAT'S music! Hit: 5 Stars
Indeed, sir, there I was moseyin' out of the Barnyard Starbucks, when I hyear some pulsatin' beats droppin' out of a passing car. But not just yer regular chill beatz: these were drippin' with the very finest world-beat, coolin' down the block. I mean, my caramel latte suddenly became an ICED caramel latte, dig? So when I find out my crew the Thievery Corporation has a new CD out, I done wang-dang-doodled my way over to get me some. And hoo boy! This done hear hit me where I live! Perhaps a bit more poppy than 'Richest Man in Babylon,' but dang if I can't get enough of 'Warning Shots' (which sets the dance floor on fire where I dj), or Perry Farrell's turn on 'Revolution Solution.' TC have a way of turning the people ON to WORLD FLAVA, and I got no problem sayin' that WORLD FLAVA don't taste like chicken! A great CD, no doubt!
Free Music Review: From the Cosmos Hit: 5 Stars
Only one word fully describes this album: Wow. Where do they get the inspiration, the creativity, the magic? Who knows. Just be thankful that they keep making beautiful and innovative music. TC just keeps getting better with each new album. If you thought RMIB was original, wait till you hear the collage of sounds compiled onto this tapestry of music. Some standout tracks: Warning Shots, Heart's a Lonely Hunter, Amerimacka, and the knock-out The Supreme Illusion. Holy cow, this song will floor you. It's almost too good.
If you own any other TC album and you like it, go out immediately and but The Cosmic Game. It's even better.
Free Music Review: 5 stars for Thievery taking it forward 5 for Cymande as well Hit: 5 Stars
Its nice that Thievery is always paying hommage to the originators, ie Cymande, (pronounced sah-mahn-day). This is the first band to fuse funk, jazz and reggae between 1972-1974. Check out the recently released and remastered Cymande, Renegades of Funk. Cymande was an 8 piece live funk band from the West Indies that made it possible for acts like Thievery to proliferate this sound.
Cymande invented it, with tracks like Bra, The Message, Dove, Bird, Fug, Genevieve, etc. So pay them their respect by checking out Cymande renegades of funk. Its that simple. Into our heart flies the Dove - Cymande.
Free Music Review: Classic 'Thievery' riffs and groovy beats Hit: 5 Stars
This is yet another high-quality, gold-standard Thievery Corp release. Fantastic reggae & Indian influenced riffs and groovy beats. I love albums you can just listen to from beginning to end without having to skip a song; always the case with their music. Stick the cd into your player and then sit 'relax' with a special friend or party with a bunch of pals and chill out. Love this album. So far I've love all their albums that I've come across, inclu "Sounds (Songs?) from the Thievery HiFi" and DJ Kicks and "Richest Man in Babylon". I need to investigate what else is out there. "Versions" in on order.
Free Music Review: Let there be dub... Hit: 5 Stars
I put the headphones on and it blows my mind. I turn the music up and it blows by body. And then it goes further and further. It transcendes, it connects, it points out, it heals. It's a truely spirutual album, which mixes up different music genres and finally adds this hypnotic spice of dub to make you follow the music deeper and deeper into yourself. Bacause that's where all the dub eventually goes. My absolute favourite from the moment I heard (and didn't recognize) Perry Farrel in Revolution-Solution. Buy it and then bow down to it:)
