Free Music Review: They Shoulda Been Huge

Frank Zappa has an album called The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life. That title is in reference to his touring band on that particular album, but that title more than sums up all that is Thin Lizzy. On the books Thin Lizzy are considered a classic band, but other than those who were into them back in the day, who has really heard of them? Classic as they may be, they failed to cross over to the next generation like Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Pink Floyd to name a few. That is completely unfair, but that's the way it went. They're forever condemned to be known to this generation as that band that sings, "The Boys Are Back In Town". Please people, don't judge them on that song(that stupid commercial with the vikings doesn't help either). They may have had only one real radio hit, but Thin Lizzy are 100% talent all the way. I mean look at how many albums they have! They were in the game for a long time. The brainwashed youth would beg to differ, but these guys had alot more creativity than Zeppelin. You're just gonna have to buy Black Rose if you really want to prove to yourself that that's not true. You'll be amazed when you listen. If you like classic rock and have got most of the popular albums of the 70s, and are looking for some new stuff, this is right up your alley. If you dig metal bands like Iron Maiden, I dare you to listen to this and tell me that Maiden didn't get a few ideas from Thin Lizzy. Not that Lizzy are all hard rock. They're categorized as a hard rock band, but they touch down on all kinds of genres...and without sounding corny. They just play whatever they think sounds good, similar to Queen, but not sounding like Queen. Unlike alot of classic bands, Lizzy's songs are a notch up due to Phil Lynott's fantastic lyrics. They're alot more poetic than the typical RockandRolltillyoupukeandsleepwithteenagegirls kind of lyrics. Since I'm on The Supreme Revolutionary Committee, I tend to play this all over North Pines, though Franklin Reilly isn't a huge Lizzy fan. I love this group, and so will you if you take the plunge.
