Free Music Notes for Jailbreak AlbumFree Music Review: Update 11/30/05 - Skip this album, better Lizzy is out there Hit: 2 Stars
Update: 11/30/05
Jailbreak.
Its been six years since the review below. And have I taken heat for it!
My opinion still stands - I don't think this is their best. This album appeals to many for the dual guitar harmonies. Personally, the Gorham/Robertson give and take never worked for me. I found the tones they used and the vibe of this era of the band somewhat plodding.
In the years since the original review I've come more and more to appreciate the Eric Bell era of Thin Lizzy. That era of the band had alot more interesting things going on compared to "Jailbreak." Even John Sykes' contributions show more fire.
Resume throwing rocks at me.
-end update-
I can see it now: "Thats ridiculous you ripped on Jailbreak." The die-hard fan of Thin Lizzy's highest grossing era would think exactly that. The 2 star rating isn't so much a put-down as much as it is a commentary that its not their best work. If you want their most artistic work turn to the CDs - "Vagabonds of the Western World," "Thunder & Lightning" and to some degree "Renegade." This CD, of course features many FM rock radio staples. The songs such as "Jailbreak","Boys...," and "Emerald" are good numbers. However, overall it sounds like most anything else in 1976 that was in the hard rock vien. I hate to admit it. But, I think this CD is an example of what can happen when the record company gets behind your album and you get lucky. Pity "Thunder & Lightning" didn't get the same treatment - it was more worthy of it.
