Free Music Review: WARRIORS
Hit: 5 Stars

It took far too long for Thin Lizzy to step up to the plate with a major performance like this. They had flirted with good albums for years, but everything finally came together. As far as the review saying this was typical 80's metal, then this must be great, because it was the mid 70's. Just goes to show they were a band well ahead of their time!

The great lyrics, driving bass, Lynott's crooning, the double edged guitar attack that would become a trademark, and the pounding rhythms of Brian Downey's drums create a masterpiece! I can't even begin to tell you there are any songs you'd have to wade through to get to something good. These are all Lizzy killers! My favorites are "Warriors" and "Emerald", where the group shows they can play swords and sorcery with the best of them. The variety of most Lizzy albums is present even here with the slower "Romeo and the Lonely Girl" and "Running Back". Strong rockers are the three everyone knows, "Jailbreak", "the Cowboy Song", and "the Boys Are Back In Town".

Maybe it's just reliving great times from high school or one of the hottest tours I've seen with Robin Trower, but JAILBREAK is one of those lifetime achievements few bands, no matter how good, ever accomplish. Definitely a 100 all-time best CD!

Free Music Review: One of the greatest rock albums of all-time
Hit: 5 Stars

Not only is Jailbreak Thin Lizzy's best album, it is one of the best rock albums from any era, 70s or otherwise. The whole album flows seamlessly from lighter pop songs, through the heavy, relentless riffs of "warrior", and ends with the classic heavy metal sounding "Emerald". Lizzy is not just another "70s band" on this album. These guys are smart. Guitar solos emerge from the main riffs as a natural progression of the song, and are not thrown in for their own sake. One of my friends (a guitar player) had tears in his eyes one time after hearing the solos in "Cowboy Song". That is effective songwriting, folks.

Songs such as "Jailbreak" and "Romeo" contain maddingly catchy choruses and riffs. Phil Lynott's lyrics and bass are at turns both cheesy and profound. Heavy metal fans will notice how Thin Lizzy's two guitar sound has influenced a little band named Iron Maiden, with duelling solos and the like (check out the last couple of minutes of "emerald").

Jailbreak is one of those albums you listen to once, and then put on the shelf, only to play it the next day, and the next day and the next...I listened to this album for two days non-stop. I'd say Phil and the boys did quite well with this one, and I recommend it of course

Free Music Review: Jailbreak
Hit: 5 Stars

Most people, and I'm included, start their trek through Thin Lizzy territory with their 1976 album "Jailbreak." There's a very good reason for this, since anyone that listens to classic rock radio should be familiar with at least three of the songs on this album - "The Boys are Back In Town," "The Cowboy Song," and the title track. For those of you starting out like I did, let me just say that you can't go wrong with this record.

"Jailbreak" shows off Thin Lizzy's considerable talent and variety, thanks in part to the great drumming of Brian Downey, their trademark dual-guitar harmonies supplied by the stable of excellent guitarists throughout Thin Lizzy history (on this album, Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson handle the six strings), and, of course, Phil Lynott's masterful bass playing and soulful vocals (the latter are especially heard on "Fight or Fall"). The album drifts between "slow dance with your girl" type of songs ("Romeo and the Lonely Girl," "Fight or Fall") and out-and-out rockers ("Jailbreak," and my favorite song on the album "The Emerald").

The best part is, once you've really gotten into "Jailbreak," there are a bunch of other Thin Lizzy records out there. Do yourself a favor and pick up the live album, too, since it's easily one of the five best live rock records.

Free Music Review: Hidden Gem
Hit: 5 Stars

First of I would like to say I love Jimi, Page, Clapton and Beck, they are my heroes, they are my guiding lights in this world...but where do you go when you got all the Zeppelin cds, and youve experienced Hendrix thoroughly? That's exactly the question I was asking myself as I stumbled across Thin Lizzys Jailbreak...and that question was answered.

As you can see other people have discovered Thin Lizzy as I have recently, and I am compelled to write a review about them. As a guitarist I noticed the dueling Les Pauls wielded by Gorham and Robertson, and I knew they meant business. These two guys make their guitars soar with high octane riffs, delicate harmony lines and orgasmic solos. Lynott as others have mentioned has a poetic touch and a way of phrasing his lyrics that is pleasing to the ear. I bought this cd being only vaguely familiar with the song Boys Are Back In Town, but my mommy had gotten me a Guitar One magazine that showcased the 200 Greatest Guitar Recordings Of All Time. Thin Lizzys Jailbreak was 18 out of 40 in the Classic Rock Section witch sparked my interest and made me buy this gem. All you classic rockers out there heed my call and buy this cd now and thank me later. Jailbreak is a great addition to any collection, and a great Lizzy album to start on.

Free Music Review: A very influential story-based hard rock album - not for everyone, but the song "Jailbreak" *does* give it mass appeal
Hit: 5 Stars

Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak" is a great story-based hard rock album from the 70's which is very original. As opposed to mindless lyrics in the vein of Van Halen and AC/DC, Thin Lizzy's songs were mostly tales that were mostly interesting to listen to (though that's probably not the real reason you'll listen to one of their songs). Some of the songs don't instantly strike you as good, but with several listens one will begin to like them. Singer/songwriter Phil Lynott is a great choice for the band's style, and the musicianship is tight and pretty complex (they inspired many with their dual-guitar setup). It also goes through a good amount of moods and pacing - not every song is high energy like Van Halen is, for example. "Cowboy Song" is a good example as it starts off slow and eventually gets faster paced. Every track here is either good or excellent (and the hits "Jailbreak" and "The Boys Are Back In Town" definitely add to its appeal). I'll admit that it IS a guilty pleasure to an extent, but definitely not so much that most people wouldn't like it. Fans of the genre and music historians/collectors will most likely love it. If it weren't for its historical influence, though, I probably would've given it a "4.5". Highly recommended!
