Free Music Notes for JailbreakFree Music Review: Just the surface Hit: 5 Stars
When you look at the Jailbreak album you might think Thin Lizzy is about 'The Boys are Back in Town' because DJ's play the music they're most comfortable with. Not so.
The group was fairly prodigous. Vagabonds. Chinatown. Black Rose. And many others defined this great Irish group, a precursor to U2 and (mind the step, please) right in step with the great rock groups of their time. I can't say that Phil Lynott was Ireland's answer to Bruce Springsteen yet there is a lot of similarity between the message of freedom and hope along with the pulsating beat of great rock 'n roll undimminished by countries or class lines.
DJ's play the music they believe the fans are used to. Not a low blow but the last of the DJ's that pushed the envelope to INTRODUCE fans to OTHER music that musicians and lyricists wrote is Allison Steele 'The Night Bird' on WNEW in New York in the early '70's and Scott Muni on AM New York. So 'Jailbreak' and 'The Boys . . .' are good pieces of music but try 'Warrior,' 'Emerald'and 'The Cowboy Song' from this album. 5 stars. Excellent music. Larry Scantlebury
Free Music Review: What a GREAT album! Hit: 5 Stars
I'd forgotten what a great album this was!
Truth to tell this was my brother's album - I was more into prog-rock (which this sort of qualifies for since it IS a concept album ;) ) and he was in the band so he needed it to learn the hits, but I'd always liked it back then. But time passes and I kept up with the prog rock types and the big name bands, but Thin Lizzy? not so much.
Some of the lyrics actually did stick in my head - especially the Cowboy Song - with that insanely great twin-lead and the - well - suggestive lyrics in the break - but I hadn't really thought about it for 20ish years until a young friend of mine (she's younger than the album ;) ) mentioned it.
And I went - "Yeahhhhh!!"
So I bought it.
And - it's not a great remaster, but it it sounds like an album should sound, and the songs are GREAT! alot of variety in tempos and subject matter - the band just plain kicks BUTT and it's just - great!
So buy it! it's what - 10 bux? c'mon! Go for it, you will NOT regret it!

once i robbed a bank with some friends and when we sauntered out to the car with potato sacks filled with cash slung over our shoulders we discovered that while we were inside our getaway driver had traded in our vw van for a limozeen!! we were a little sad because there was a lot of nostalgia attached to the van and it was painted in a beautiful american flag motif complete with stars&stripes(forever) but then we realized that our new wheels were less conspicuous and less likely to get pulled over given that when people see a forty foot black automobile they usually assume it's michael jackson or ja rule inside anyway. then i barked at the driver and i said "i hate this song!! i wanna hear thin lizzy, now!!" and i was really rude and everything you know because my adrenaline was running so high from the robbery and all. so then he turned it on and i laid back on the leather seats with their beautiful white piping and i heard those sounds and i felt like a very rich and happy man.
p.s. the police haven't found me yet so don't tell them.
Free Music Review: The only commercially known release from music's best* Hit: 5 Stars
Hopefully, you will see my name in the future sometime either in my field of study(Medical) or as just being maybe Thin Lizzy's #1 fan. Most would credit those such as Elvis(obvious) , the Stones, Beatles, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, & Van Halen as being the best of all time. They may have been great, but I have news for the world in 2005! I, myself, obtained my first copy of Jailbreak at age 25(2001) & while I was brainwashed most of my life by just commercially known outfits, I was born again and saw the light with Thin Lizzy and the late(1/4/86), greatest Phil Lynott. We all know "The Boys Are Back In Town, but this is just the beginning. While Downey, Gorham, & Robertson fit the mold of the long haired, blonde stereotyped looking rock star, those of us who were born of a different ethinic background but raised in the US, or UK-Ireland at that, finally have, or have always had, an Irish-Brazilian dark & curly haired legend(Black Rose) to look up too. How ironic after all this time that this one was the best all this time*
Free Music Review: Amazing !!! Hit: 5 Stars
As a teenager in the 70s, the Jailbreak LP stayed on my turntable for months. I just couldn't resist those fantastic power chords and melodic lead breaks. After losing track of my vinyl disk years ago, I recently picked up a CD copy. None of the brilliance of this LP has faded. This is truly one of the greatest hard rock albums of all time.
Besides the great guitar work, Phil Lynott's songwriting is at its peak. There isn't a weak song in the bunch. Besides the three songs that got all the airplay, Boys are Back in Town, Jailbreak & Cowboy Song, check out the hard driving Emerald and the R&B tinged Fight or Fall. My fav, Warriors, has one of the greatest wah-wah guitar leads ever recorded. I still get chills everytime I hear it. And the way the song ends - pure brilliance.
If you don't own any Thin Lizzy CDs, you can't go wrong in picking this one up. It's Thin Lizzy at its best and a classic rock album that has truly stood the test of time.
