Free Music Review: 3EB's best album. Highly recommended.
Hit: 5 Stars

In my opinion, this album far exceeds 3EB's debut album in every way and is my favorite of all of their albums. It is every bit as catchy and memorable as the debut, but with darker, deeper, and more personal songs. The album is very melodic and flows together beautifully. I would say that it is an advantage that the album was not as big of a hit as the debut, as it can be listened to without sounding like a greatest hits album. This is the album I reach for most when I want to hear 3EB and still enjoy listening to it after having listened to it ever since it was released. I would highly recommend purchasing an import version of the album rather than the US release. Another reviewer mentioned there being an "indistinguishable edited version" of the album and a regular version of the album with two different track listings. This is incorrect. In the US, there is only one version of the album available, and it is an edited version. The song Slow Motion was made into an instrumental because the lyrics were deemed too violent and offensive in the wake of the Columbine High School massacre. There are two different versions with two different track listings, but this is because the first pressing contained a version of Slow Motion with only the chorus as track 11. The second pressing was released with all the lyrics removed and the song made into a completely instrumental piece that was moved to track 13. The latter is the only version currently available in the US. In other countries, however, the song was never censored and is available with all lyrics intact. Interestingly enough, the import version does incorrectly state "(instrumental)" next to Slow Motion in the liner notes(though not on the back cover). Anyway, Slow Motion is an amazing song and one of my all time favorites by 3EB. If you actually listen to the lyrics to the whole song and pay attention to the meaning, you will discover that it is actually an anti-violence/anti-drug song about how the media exploits both. If you can't find an import version, it is available uncensored on 3EB's greatest hits album here in the US. However, the album just doesn't sound as good or right with the censored version on it, so it is still recommended. Well, enough ranting. Buy the album. It's a great album regardless of which version you purchase.

Free Music Review: You are of the Earth, I am of the Sky...
Hit: 5 Stars

This is just one of those albums you have to have. It *needs* to be listened to. It really is unlike their other 2 cds, (though I love those too) why? It's really hard to say. There's a lot going on with this CD.

Picture a melody that's stuck in your head, and take all your inner most secrets and desires and fears and there you have it = Blue. You will relate to these songs in such an intimate unique way. Stephan Jenkins has the ability to write the perfect pop songs with a little added edge, humor and wit.

The opening song "Anything" does a great job of immediately reeling you in. It's short and to the point, with just the right amount of intensity and passion. Following that is "Wounded", (which, if asked, I'm sure plenty of die hard 3eb fans would say it's among their favorites) it's got clever lyrics and a really interesting sound to it in general. The climax and ending are excellent.

The second half of the cd is my favorite, but as a whole it's pretty great all around. The only song I could do without is Red Summer Sun, (and only because there's a part in the middle where Stephan Jenkins does this weird screaming as if recalling old hair bands of the 80's). If that part wasn't there, the song would be good. I love the ending of it, with it's ambient trippy quality and cool layering.

"Camouflage" is probably my favorite-- this song is so incredible and unlike anything I've ever heard. It would be in the soundtrack of my dreams, and I mean my literal DREAMS because the song itself is almost other worldly. If I had to describe the way it makes me feel while listening to it, I'd say it's like riding a roller coaster at night...when you're approaching the top of the steepest hill, your eyes closed just as you're about to fly down. Then it's like all those feelings as they swim inside your head at once: sound echoes around you, the air whirring, colors blending into one big loopy stream. Amazing. 10/10

...But now that I think of it, really most of the CD is like that. It's like a summer carnival late at night where everything is a little weird, but you're having a great time. (and you never forget it)

Free Music Review: Thank God for Third Eye Blind.
Hit: 5 Stars

Reading a few of the more negative reviews down below, I could tell that a lot of those people, first of all, don't care about the lyrical aspect of the CD and haven't thought about what the band was trying to do and say when recording "Blue". Buying the first CD, shelving it for a few weeks, then pulling it out and reading probably some of the most amazing lyrics I have ever read was what hooked me to 3Eb in the first place, ranking it with Smashing Pumpkins as one of my favorite bands. Then, buying "Blue", nervous that it would not be nearly as good as the first one, then listening to it WHILE reading the lyrics- well, I found that "Blue" is probably better than the debut in many ways. Well, at least it's better musically- the debut was full of many pop-ish tunes that lack any substantial power. "Blue" has some great "experimental" (slightly psychedelic- just listen to that electric sitar on "Camouflage") songs. Great guitar riffs and cool jungle rhythms by Brad.

"Anything" is a nice punk number, albeit a bit short. "Wounded", my personal favourite, is an amazing song with lyrics as powerful as the first song. "Ten Days Late" has lyrics that reflect the confusion and nervousness of anyone who has found that their girlfriend is pregnant. "Darkness" hooked me when I heard Stephen cry out that sudden, unexpected shout of "Lights"- the song is powerful and beautiful.

However, while the lyrics to the debut was what made Third Eye Blind THE band for me, most of the lyrics on "Blue" are weaker than the original. With the exception of "Wounded" and "Darkness", a great number of the lyrics seemed to be less poetic and substantial than the first CD. "Never Let You Go", the obvious hit single choice, has lyrics that pale greatly in comparison to the original hit single, "Semi-Charmed Life".

All-in-all, "Blue" is a great album for any dedicated fan. Those who are more pop people than rock people may feel different. I suggest to borrow it first and decide.

Free Music Review: ONe oF THe GReatEST Albums ever!
Hit: 5 Stars

This album is amazing it is just as good as their debut because of it's distinct sound.

Here are are the traxx::

Anything - 5/5 One of the greatest opening songs to an album I've ever heard.

Wounded - 5/5 The shoulda-been-but-wasn't single. This is an amazing song with a flavor that only third eye blind can cook up. great lyrics.

10 days late - 5/5 this song was a single that really never got any radio play and i don't even think that people remember the video for this song. NEway Great song, almost as poppy as "Never let you" go but just better

Never Let you Go 4/5 - The only reason I'm giving this a 4 is because of the overplay it got on the radio but still a great song. Hey It's Catchy what can i say.

Deep inside of you 4/5 great song - but might get a little boring after a while.

1000 julys - 3/5 the only song on this album that i'm not completely crazy about.

An ode to maybe 5/5 - This Is Where The album starts changing it's mood from radio friendly songs to strange and eerie. I gave this a 5 because of the lyrics. their so crazy and wierd that you have to love them.

The red summer sun 5/5 - As i said the songs get wierder. great guitar riff.

Camouflage 5/5 Here it is, one of the craziest songs I have ever heard. this song is an example of why 3eb are distinct from every other band out there.

Farther 4/5 now the album starts getting a little smoother. A great song that is much better than 1000 julys.

Slow Motion (instrumental) 5/5 The most controversial song that 3eb have. This song has lyrics but their record label did not want them to put them in. GREAT IDEA ELEKTRA!(DUH)

Darkness 5/5 Great song with amazing lyrics.

Darwin 4/5 this is one of those songs that grows on you. Its very strange when you first hear it. Because of the lyrics and the music arrangement. Look for the hidden track!

Go out and buy this album NOW don't be fooled by the poppy "Never let you go" because the album is nothin but POP.

Free Music Review: Extreme Expressiveness Fit into a Compact Disc
Hit: 5 Stars

Well, to say the least, Third Eye Blind has definitely showed us that there is much more to them then the "doot doot doot"s of "Semi-Charmed Life". What troubles me is people like to say they are big fans of Third Eye Blind, but then bash their recent record, "Blue". If they were real fans they would really buy the album, not in search of another Semi-Charmed Life or a Jumper, but a new creative sound and expression of life. That's exactly what "Blue" is about and it is a captivating magnificent piece of work. What other record that recently came out has a track with a SITAR on it? If you don't know what that is, then you see my point. And even if you do know what it is, name a mainstream band that has used such an instrument in any works of theirs ... EXACTLY. There is much more to the band than what people know or see. It may be the lack of understanding or intellect in the people who do not like "Blue" that makes them feel that way, but no matter what, "Blue" speaks for itself with each and every one of those dramatic powerful songs written and played on the album. "Anything", the first track, is a hard, intense song about the singer's affection for someone and his willingness to do anything for them, hence the title. "Wounded" is a powerful song about sexual abuse and is eloquently written and is the most favored song on the record by many. I could easily write something really good about all of the songs, but I have limited space. To put it in a single statement: "Blue" is not one to pass up in light of Third Eye Blind's absense on MTV or many radiostations, but one to pick up and listen to. Listen to the lyrics and the passion in each song and THEN try to tell me it's a bad album. I'll bet you won't be able to.
