Free Music Review: Excellent, Couldn't be Better
Hit: 5 Stars

This cd really hits the spot. It is one hell of an album, and you won't be dissapointed if you buy it. It is a different style of music than the debut album, but I admire Third Eye Blind for taking that extra step foward instead of cowling up and trying the exact type of music for money (I could think of some bands...). Jenkins goal of this album was to make the listener feel that "live feeling" like when you are in a concert. They pick that right up with "Wounded", "Deep Inside of You", and "Darkness". There is also different styles of music in this album. They start off from the intense guitar of "Anything", and then move on to the moody, rock attracting sounds of "Wounded". A little later you get carried away with the love from the half paced music and deep lyrics of "Deep Inside of You". After that, you fall right in to the album and don't come out for a long, long time. Third Eye Blind uses more computerising sounds in this album than in the debut, e.g. "Camoflauge" and "Farther", but it doesn't change anything. Another good thing that was introduced in this album is that Arion (the bass player) joins with Jenkins in the writing of two incredible songs, "10 Days Late" and "Darwin", and he has joined with Jenkins in the producing of this album. Brad Hargreaves yet again brings some of the best drums I have ever heard. To sum it all up into a short phrase, It Kicks.

Free Music Review: Good, but not as good as the first album.
Hit: 5 Stars

First off let me say that if you are looking for another "Semi-charmed Life" or "Jumper" you will not find it here. Third Eye Blind's second album veers away from the catchy pop songs that made their debut album so popular. There are radio hits such as "Never Let You Go" and "Deep Inside of You" but they are not the focus. What makes "Blue" such a good recording is not single track but the complexity of it as a whole. The first track, "Anything," is so short that you barely have time to get into the song, but is a perfect introduction to the rest of the album. The next few tracks, "Wounded," (probably the best song on either of Third Eye Blind's records) "Ten Days Late," "Never Let You Go," "Deep Inside of You," and "1000 Julys" are the meat of the album. These tracks are the root of the rest of the songs; everything else is built on these five tracks. The next three tracks are unimpressive or simply over produced, although the album ends on a softer note with "Farther," and "Darkness." I do not feel I can recomend this album to everyone, even though it is a personal favorite, because it does not have the universal appeal of the first album. If you liked "Never Let You Go," or "Deep Inside of You" you will love this album. If you thought they were just par or below par, think twice before buying.

Free Music Review: The best of recent pop music
Hit: 5 Stars

A lot of people (myself included) that normally would have only the tiniest respect for modern pop music regarded Third Eye Blind's first album as a sort of guilty pleasure. Well, with the release of "Blue" I'm happy to come and say that I fully appreciate the workings of Jenkins and company. There are enough catchy guitar hooks, intense beats, and powerful lyrics to keep you returning to this album again and again. "Anything" is short enough that it hooks and then abruptly lets go. "Wounded" is a bittersweet rocker and one of the stronger tracks. "10 Days Late"... er no comment, it's weaker than the other tracks. "Never Let You Go" is a punchy hit. "Deep Inside of You" is one of the best, a whisper to scream ballad. "1000 Julys" is one hot chart. The second half of the disk is insanely powerful, a la "God Of Wine" on their first CD, but the real standouts are the instrumental "Slow Motion" and "Camouflage," a driving, multi-layered, echoing masterpiece. Overall you won't be disappointed, it's just too bad all the songs are as immediately accessible as "Semi-Charmed Life," (If you don't think you've heard that song, think again: Doot doo doot! Doot Doo Doo Doo! Yeah, you know it) and thus probably won't get as large an audience. Oh well, they're missing out. Buy this album!

Free Music Review: Another Success For Third Eye Blind!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Blue", the follow up to Third Eye Blind's extremely successful debut album, will not disappoint! Their sound is definitely different than their debut album, but it has changed in a good way. The music sounds less angry and much more mature. The band spent many, many hours in the studio trying to make a follow up album which all of their fans would enjoy. Well, I think they did an awesome job. Ever since I bought this cd over a month ago, I can't stop listening to it. It's been the only cd I've listened to. I never get tired of it. There's always something new to listen to on "Blue". This album seases to amaze me. Every song put out by Third Eye Blind is of the best quality. My personal favorites on this album are: "Wounded", "Deep Inside Of You", "1000 Julys", "Camoflauge", and "Darkness". The only disappointment in this album is the edited version of "Slow Motion". That is a brilliant song about the glamorization of violence which, unfortunately, was edited by their record company, Elektra. Anyways, if you liked the first album, "Blue" is definitely for you. If you didn't like the first album, "Blue" is still for you. It has a much different tone than their debut album, but it is still of the same great quality that only 3eb can produce. Happy Listening!

Free Music Review: Not the Original but Still Great
Hit: 5 Stars

The first cd seemed to hook me in from the first listen and after dozens of spins I truly discovered it's greatness. This, the follow up cd, is different in that it didn't hook me in right away. For a long time I came away from this cd disapointed but eventually the fact that this cd is great caught me. This cd is a lot louder than the first, and it does that well. Where it tends to fail is that the album seems to be very expiramental and studio driven, and sadly it doesn't really have any of the softer stuff that was great on the first one. There are no Background's or God of Wine's on this cd (Slow Motion [the version with lyrics in it] and Camoflage seem to be the closest things but while good songs neither catches 3EB at their greatest), which is why I give it 4 stars instead of 5, but this cd still has many great songs by third eye blind and is one of my favorite cds. Wounded is one of the best songs 3EB has made and the louder, more hard rock sound is a welcomed addition. I highly suggest you pickup this excellent and extremly underrated cd by an excellent band. Don't give up on it too quick because it will grow on you like it did on me. Perhaps it's unfair to compare it to the first cd (which is a classic), and maybe if it was by anyone else I would give it a five star rating but I just can't put it up there with the very best (having a 4.5 star rating would be nice).
