Free Music Notes for BlueFree Music Review: A Totally New Approach Hit: 5 Stars
"Third Eye Blind" has the potential to be a Classic. Some listeners may not appreciate the totally new approach to heavy metal and rap, but I'm certain that you will. Wilbur and Orville were laughed at too at Kitty Hawk. Did they quit? Heck no, they went on to invent those tiny bags of inedible peanuts and lavatories meant only for midgets. First Class music for the Economy Class. Do we deserve anything less? I agree totally with the song about beating-up girls. It doesn't hurt them much: maybe a black eye or a bloody lip. Besides, people of all races, colors, creeds and national origins have the right to be physically abused equally. Isn't that what Article III of the United States Constitution stipulates? This is America - not Communist China! My advise: If you want some thinking music with words that make you think (and forget that you ever heard of the Law of Diminishing Marginal Returns) get "Third Eye Blind". Believe you me, there's nothing around this smart except maybe Driver's Ed. Do you understand you mission? So get out your credit card, click "order this item," and take a stand against big government censorship. Seriously folks. Are we dogs or are we mice? For Pump-Action Animation, "Third Eye Blind" is tops. "Third Eye Blind" stays the course and resists the popular temptation to blend together Fabianism and clericalism.
Free Music Review: 3eb experiments, expands, but can't get away from good Hit: 5 Stars
I'm not going to lie to you, the second half of this CD isn't all that great the first time you hear it. But it grew on me, and now I have so much emotional attachment to those songs I have to listen to it by myself because I know on two or three of the songs someone would say "What was that?" It's worth it, this CD is worth your time. Now that I've got all that "It isn't the first album" crap out of the way, I can tell you about "Wounded." It's a song, I feel, that's from the perspective of the friend of someone who just got the life sucked out of them. I have cried to this song so many times for so many different reasons. The pain that you feel from a friend who has shut down because of something they won't talk to you about, I know that pain and I know that this song is by far the best song ever written about it. It is my favorite song ever put out there, I had never even expressed that pain, then Stephan Jenkins put it in better words than I ever could and I could just FEEL every word. I would buy this CD for just this one song. I recommend you buy this CD for this one song and all the others. It's a beautiful CD, and it's too bad not very many people gave it a chance. I don't think there's enough music out there that makes a connection with the listener, and if you feel the same way then I know you will love this album.
Free Music Review: simply brilliant Hit: 5 Stars
Although my opinion might not be valid (i went to their show in boston 4/24 and i met the band.. THE BEST NIGHT OF MY SHORT LIFE) i absolutely LOVE this album.. i can say that when i first listened to it, i thought it was no good and went back to the comfort of their first album, but after deciding that just listening to the first release, Anything, was not sufficient.. and i can say after a few spins i fell in love with every word and note on this album.. yes it's different form the first one, but to produce the same thing over and over makes life dull. the album fuses punk, pop and rock into a melodic masterpiece that, once you give it a chance, permeats the soul and becomes part of you..i can say that there isn't a day that has gone by without me listening to at least one song on the album (i feel like i'm missing something if i don't listen to the cd in the morning). Another great thing about this band is that they are not afraid to face controversy and MAKE MUSIC AND LYRICS THAT HAVE MEANING (unlike much of today's music which consists of sugary pop songs with no substance to their songs whatsoever). my best suggestion is if you are thinking about buying this album because you liked the first, go ahead and do it, just don't expect the first album. you may not like it in the beginning, but don't just give up... until then, KEEP ROCKIN'!
Free Music Review: Great follow-up Hit: 5 Stars
It's hard to compare the two Third Eye Blind records because I think Blue is so much different. "Anything" is a punchy rocker that ends quickly but soon enough to leave you hangin. "Wounded" shows the well-crafted pop song that Third Eye Blind knows how to write. "10 Days Late" and "Never Let You Go" are obvious radio hits. "Deep Inside Of You" is one that is dreamy and romantic at the same time. My personal favorite, "1000 Julys", is probably the most hard rockin song the band has ever done, while "An Ode To Maybe" keeps the same formula. Then we began to see the band experiment with new sounds. "Red Summer Sun" builds up intensly to a screaming punk rant. "Camoflauge" has a electronic feel while still rockin at the same time. "Farther" features eerie drums and bass and "Slow Motion" is great even without the lyrics to the verse. "Darkness" works well with Kevin Cadogen's clever use of harmonics at the end and "Darwin" is a great closing track with its mellow vibe. Third Eye Blind made a record that they wanted to and now its up to the fans to support them.
Free Music Review: A Delight for 3EB Fans Hit: 5 Stars
This album is simply fantastic. Too many artists these days "sell out" and try to write songs that will appeal to radio audiences rather than what they'd really like to write. Not so with Third Eye Blind. The songs on "Blue" are evidence of a more mature, musically diverse 3EB, yet the sound is still definitely 3EB. Stephan Jenkins comes through again with some very solid lyrics, and the album is a great listen all the way through. My personal favorite, "Deep Inside of You," is a great acoustically based number, while "Anything", "Wounded", and "Never Let You Go" are very reminiscent of such 3EB staples as "Semi-Charmed Life" and "God Of Wine". The Album is at times heavy, at other times very mellow. Jenkins' voice croons, raps, and wails effectively in every song. Every song offers something different from previous 3EB works. Experimentation? I think not. 3EB have produced an album of music they WANTED to play, that they believe is great music. I am also a believer, and I know you will be too. "Blue" is not as instantly catchy as the debut album, but it will draw you in like a hook.
