Free Music Notes for BlueFree Music Review: Everything I Want Hit: 5 Stars
If you are a fan of the original Third Eye Blind album (and even if you are not), their second outing will certainly impress you. Most bands go through what the artists call a "Sophomore Slump" (see: Silverchair)with their second album, but this is hardly the case for Stephan Jenkins and friends. But did you really expect it to be?The cd starts off with the spit-polished punk masterpiece ANYTHING. Keeping with tradition, this song is only about two minutes long, and the audience wishes that it was longer. Following ANYTHING is the masterpeice WOUNDED. If there was one song that SJ would pick as his favourite (3eb's first was GOD OF WINE), then this one would be it. It starts as a slow, sad song, and erupts into a furious longing song. Other highlights include the smash hit - NEVER LET YOU GO and the soon to be hit 10 DAYS LATE. CAMOUFLAGE is brilliant; and FARTHER is a guilty pleasure of mine. Don't get me wrong, all the songs on here are great, just some are better than others. One of the most endearing qualities of 3eb is their ability to portray emotions in their lyrics. Blue is no exception. Whatever mood you are in, there is a song on this album for you.
Free Music Review: Stunning Beauty Hit: 5 Stars
Now that Kevin Cadogan is out of Third Eye Blind, this may be as good as it gets from 3EB. This album encorporates some expeimental writing and producing, but still manages to deliver the pop radio goods on songs like "Never Let You Go". "Anyhting" is a beautiful and powerful track, followed by the lyrically meaningful "Wounded", which manages to show off all of the guy's talents. Kevin Cadogan's guitars squeal in the most appealing way above the song, while Stephan's rich voice fills any gaps that exist (which are few, the songwriting is extremely solid). "Camoflauge" probably took me the longest to appreciate, but once i got it, i loved it the most on the whole album. Once again, the genious of the Cadogan and Jenkins team shines through. It helps to listen to the song exceedingly loud. "Darkness" is the other standout for me, with the poignant line, "I want someone to know me, maybe tell me who i am". This album is far less a repetition of the same song, like the secnd half of the first album, but it doesn contain more sexual references. Now that this band is lacking Kevin Cadogan, they will never ve as good as they appear on this excellent CD.
Free Music Review: Different, but definately 3eb Hit: 5 Stars
After having heard "Never Let You Go" on the radio a few hundred times, I was terrified that the 3eb I knew and loved had crossed the line into the top 40 pop category. After buying the CD and listening to it nonstop for weeks, I'm pleased to say that although they've changed greatly, this is still the same old 3eb.This is definately an experimental album, not the same old catchy yet moody rock from their debut. They've gone in a different direction, which really sets them apart from the rest of the modern rock culture. This definately is not a forgettable throwaway CD. Possibly the most memorable thing about the disc are songs such as "The Red Summer Sun", which show very distinctly the new boundaries that the band is probing. They're definately pushing the envelope on this one, and I can't wait to see where the take their next CD. However, fans of their first CD will still find lots to love in songs like "wounded", a grinding, driving song that doesn't let up until it's worked it's way deep into your soul. All told, don't expect this to be like their 1st CD...expect different, but even better
Free Music Review: Eye Blinding Album Hit: 5 Stars
Ok...I'll admit it....I was a little skeptical that the sophomore effort from Third Eye Blind would fall way short of their debut. It may not sell the millions that the debut did, but in many ways it is a stronger effort than the first. With Blue, the "Semi-Charmed" band does not have to worry about life on the road ending anytime soon. The album is packed with stellar musical performances. It kicks off with the packed punch of "Anything", which may be the shorest single they've released to radio...but, certaintly not the weakest. "Never Let You Go", their current radio smash, will be stuck in our heads for years to come. If you're a true 3EB fan, you'll love Stephan Jenkins witty lyrics on "Darwin", "1000 Julys", and "The Red Summer Sun". Though considered an instrumental piece, "Slow Motion", does have lyrics; and may just be the best song on Blue. "Deep Inside of You" is another gem on this album. No sophomore jinx here, 3EB will be around for a long time...or at least until cyclopes walk the planet. Enjoy!
Free Music Review: Third Eye Blind, our review Hit: 5 Stars
My frend and I each got this CD seperatly. We both enjoyed it. One thing is, that the newest version of this album has the songs arranged differently on the CD. One version of it has the songs after Farther go in this order:Darkness, Darwin, and Slow Motion, where as the other, more common version goes: Slow Motion, Darkness, and Darwin. The songs are the same though. And don't forget the hidden track after the last song which seems like the ending to THe Red Summer Sun. What's good about this CD is it has a variety of different styles, from the first single Anything to slower songs like Slow Motion and Darkness and even some more unusual sounding songs like Camouflage, Farther, and Darwin. They also say, on the cover, that you can put the CD in your computer and go to 3rdeyeblind.com and see somthing, it hasen't worked for us yet. Also, an other hidden thing in this album is when you put it in your CD-rom drive, it registers as having 14 tracks, as supposed to the 13 displayed on a CD player. Over all we liked the album, and if you like rock and alternitive, you should too.
