Free Music Notes for BlueFree Music Review: Evolution Hit: 5 Stars
Diversity and its effects on a polpulation were the main essence of Charle's Darwins Theory of evolution. For Third Eye Blind that means moving up a couple of trophic levels on the food chain. The San Fransico based quartet has indeed evovled from the Homo Erectus state of pop into full fledged rockers of their own. Tracks such as Darwin, Camoflauge, Red Summer Sun, and 1000 Julys are strong tunes that show their evolutionary roots, however, with the edge of the bands own sound and Jenkins provocative lyrics you wont think anything else than 3EB in these tunes. Darwin, Slow Motion, and Camoflauge are chock full of the bands subliminal social commentary, "we walk along like a sequel, your a cameo" from Camoflauge. Also, your bound to be hanging on to numerous vocal hooks, which anyone who has half a human heart would sing, too "I want someone to know me, maybe tell me who I am" from Darkness. Andf if you just want to sing in your car, an Ode to Maybe or Never Let you go will do the trick. Is Rock Dead, No its just moved up n the evolutionary scale.
Free Music Review: Deep and Catchy Hit: 5 Stars
Being a Third Eye Blind fan since I first heard "Semi-Charmed Life", I was hoping that they would deliver with the new record. "Blue" is a complete blistering and provocative record, once you spin it a few times! It took me a few spins and I'll tell you, this record ROCKS and ROCKS HARD! These songs are chock-full-of-hooks without being contrived in any matter whatsoever, this is real honesty in a recording here. S. Jenkins lyrics and melodies are at the very least, on the same level as the first CD. I CANNOT STOP PLAYING "BLUE"! These songs are digging deep into me....the standouts, "Wounded", "Ode To Maybe", "Deep Inside Of You", "1000 Julys", "Darkness"(my favorite)....I recently saw Third Eye Blind, again, perform in NYC, and these new songs combined with the songs from the first CD, completely ROCKED THE HOUSE and it was non-stop great song after great song.....Third Eye Blind Rules! PS, "Blue" just went certified platinum this week.
Free Music Review: The Best of Modern Rock Hit: 5 Stars
Third Eye Blind's 'Blue' has continued to be my favorite modern rock album for almost 7 years since it came out. The recording techniques and extreme caution they took to record the exact guitar sounds, levels, panning, and so on, are beyond incredible compared to every other modern rock album out there (even compared with their other two cds). I use this album as a model for my own music recording projects along with Incubus' Morning View - which I find to be another tremendous recording project.
The two songs that get to me every time, and I literally mean that I get emotional when hearing both of them, are 'Wounded' and 'Camoflage,' and possibly 'Anything.' But I do find 'Wounded' that single solitary song to be the most amazing musically engineered feat of the modern rock era, late 20th century. It might be all due to their engineer/mixer, but he knew well what he was doing and took a lot of patience and thought to it.
To anyone that appreciates the arts and expressive music, I recommend this CD fully.
Free Music Review: Great! Something exciting in a world of boring music! Hit: 5 Stars
The one thing I really love about Third Eye Blind's second c.d. "Blue" is that it's so much different than the rest of the boring music world. It's alternative rock with it's somewhat pop-like textures and phsycadelicness are far more exciting than Korn's new sellout c.d. "Issues". I also like to see that Third Eye Blind's maturing. I loved their debut (more than "Blue" in fact), but if they would have tried to duplicate it, they would have gotten boring. "Blue" is anything but sophomore slump. It's great! My only complaint is that Elektra made them edit their song "Slow Motion" because of it's reference to drugs and violence. It's an excellent song, but i've read the full lyrics and it would sound so much better with them. I can't wait until their E.P. "Black" comes out in the summer (hopefully). It will feature the unedited version of "Slow Motion". If you like "Blue", try Third Eye Blind's self-titled debut. It's even better!
Free Music Review: 3eb's still got the groove! Hit: 5 Stars
I recently saw 3eb live in concert (great show, don't miss it if you've got the chance!), and in preparation I started listening to Blue on repeat. This is an album that grows on you. It takes more than one or two listenings to start to appreciate it. The melodies are incredibly catchy, and the lyrics are very ironic and tongue-in-cheek. It is very clear the guys had a lot of fun recording this ("she's 10 days late," anyone?). "Deep Inside of You" is a beautiful song, and the chorus in the end elevates it one step up. In the concert Jenkins sang solo with just a guitar a longer version of "Slow Motion," which according to him, the record company didn't want us to hear -- but the version that made it to the album still is very touching. The closest thing to pop is "Never Let You Go." The rest, though, is alterna-rock at its best. It's still going on repeat in my car, and I just can't stop listening to it now! It makes me look forward to their next effort!
