Free Music Review: Third Eye Blind: No Other Debut Will Do!
Hit: 5 Stars

"Third Eye Blind" is a sensation self-titled debut album released by an equally sensational band. It showcases a highly enjoyable array of pop/rock songs that reflect the outstanding talent of 3EB very well indeed. The crisp, melodic sounds of singles such as "Semi-Charmed Life", "Jumper", "Graduate" and "How's it Going to Be" are simply a small taste of what 3EB have to offer in their first album. The recording is surprisingly reminiscent of a 'best of' album, due to the sheer quality of its fourteen tracks. Upon first listening to the album, I just could not believe it was a debut release! Every song, from the uplifting, lyrically-rich pop song "Semi-Charmed Life" to the heartfelt ballad "I Want You", is excellent in every sense of the word. I was a little disappointed to discover that, in contrast to the hit single "Semi-Charmed Life", many of the album's songs are moody and reek of melancholy. However, the overall quality of the album's lyrical content and instrumental performances more than make up for the sombre atmosphere. In particular, I totally adore the guitar performances of Kevin Cadogan in songs such as my personal favourite "How's It Going to Be". The guitar performances complement Stephen Jenkin's distinctive, almost lispy vocals beautifully, making for guitar-driven songs that I can't stop listening to. All in all, this album is a very worthwhile purchase that I would recommend to any true rock fan. Don't delay, buy this TODAY!

Free Music Review: One of the best albums of our times
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm generally not a huge fan of this genre of music...what I guess I want to call "medium pop-rock" or something like that, but this debut album from Third Eye Blind (3EB for short) is absolutely positively one of the best albums EVER, regardless of genre. For those who only remember the bouncy sounds and fast lyrics of Semi-Charmed Life coming over the radio, you are missing out on one of the most coherent pieces of musical work ever made.

Although each song is well-written, with good hooks and deep and poetic lyrics, what makes this album five stars is the way in which all the albums weave together and tell an intricate story when played beginning to end. Now, the story it tells is up for interpretation, but I've always imagined it as the story of a man who is watching his life crumble away before his eyes...he is abandoned by his girlfriend and his loved ones, he grows to feel empty and shallow, and he is torn emotionally as a series of difficult situations arise...for instance, the girlfriend, who was only exploiting him but he still holds love for, is caught in a horrific accident in "The Background" and he has to decide to put his heart on the line again or walk away from the girl he loves.

There are so many other examples that I could go on for pages, but to summarize, this album is so ripe with a coherent and intricate love story that you could write a novel based on this album. That puts Third Eye Blind's debut album near the top of a short list of the best albums ever made, period.

Free Music Review: Third Eye Blind - A Brilliant Debut Album !
Hit: 5 Stars

Fresh..new energetic rock music with a touch of intense writing as well as composing ,in one sentence describes this Band. The Band offers hard hitting pure beat tracks such as " Semi Charmed Life " , " Jumper " , " Graduate " , " Motor Cycle Driveby ". These songs can really make the audience go wild and crazy to their fine tunes. The softer side of the album offers very nice deep felt tracks such as " how's it gonna be " , " the background " , " i want you ".The more i listen to these songs again and again..the more i cant get enough of them. I Seriously wish that there were few extended versions of these tracks..cuz the music is beautifully composed..it just doesnt get out of your system. If your're a rock fan..this album is sure to haunt you for a long time to come. My personal favorite is " the background " cuz i really loved the guitar strings being played..and they just keep playing on my mind..its absolutely fantastic. There are 4 tracks which were released as singles and they were all hits..but i suggest pick up this album..hear it..cuz there are other songs in there as i mentioned above which are worth the recognition and hearing. If good music is what your looking for in the Rock genre..Third eye blind is one album to collect. I would really want to watch this band perform live on stage. The Album offers some really funky beats and fun type songs..and also some serious material. Go Buy it !

Free Music Review: Amazing. That's it, amazing
Hit: 5 Stars

This may be a little long. You haven't lived till you've heard this cd. Definitely my favorite album. The album's versatility is amazing. One minute you'll be listening to the completely hard-driven, angry "London", and the next you'll be listening to the beautiful, emotional ballad "The Background", both of which are equally good and a couple of my favorites on the album. You'll definitely wanna buy this one before you buy Blue, since the latter might be a little...well, you'd have to hear the first album first to appreciate it. It's all so delightfully raw sounding! And Blue's so delightfully polished sounding! Whee, 3rd Eye Blind rocks! OK, to save you the trouble of reading a track-by-track review, let me just say that the best tracks are "Narcolepsy", "The Background" and--last but sooo definitely not least--*trumpets sound* "Good for You"! The latter is my all-time favorite. So powerfully performed. I'm stunned that more 3EB fans don't like this one as much as "God of Wine" or "Motorcycle Drive By". I like to describe GfY as "A creepy, powerful song with stalker lyrics. It rocks!" OK, to keep from writing a novel on how much I love "Good for You", I'll wrap it up. Everyone--you NEED to get this album! You haven't heard good music till you buy it! I pity you if you don't have it! Go out and buy it...NOW! You won't be able to go one day without listening to it. If you do, you'll get physically sick. I do, at least. OK, uh, get it! Walk with the mighty, rock on, and all that jazz.

Free Music Review: Apart from the rest
Hit: 5 Stars

I must admit that when I first heard "Semi-charmed Life" I wanted to hear more. But when the radiowaves were overtaken by the same 4 Third Eye Blind songs I became skeptical and uninterested in what I thought was a band concentrating on radiofriendly pop tunes. But upon hearing the album in its entirety you'll find that the best songs are not the singles. Each song is unique and rarely do you find a debut album to be this consistent in its quality. Jenkins creates stories of agony and loss in each of his songs. Unlike other lyricists, what holds you is the reality and genuine emotion in his words, as well as his melancholic and aggressive singing. If you have ever felt the darker side of love then you can truly appreciate and relate to songs like "I Want You", "Motorcycle Driveby", or "The Background". You also find Codogan perfectly complementing the moods with his guitar playing while avoiding any filler space. Each song, like the album itself, builds to a climax in the middle and then ends where it slowly began. With this formula Third Eye Blind still mangages to sound unlike any other guitar band, and does not easily fall into any category. The music is simultaneously infectious in melody and and heavy in content. The hook for me are the chills the songs give me and how easily they reduce me to tears when I listen. Whatever it becomes for you; you will find it hard to turn away once you give the album a try.
