Free Music Notes for Aliens Ate My Buick AlbumFree Music Review: A Good Try Hit: 3 Stars
Thomas Dolby does his best to break out of the electronic niche he was in with this album, and on that front, he succeeds completely. The music is a bit more spotty. "Keys to Her Ferrari" is a pretty good hard swing number, "Airhead" is decent pop (despite the rather unnecessary politically-correct lyrical ending), and "Budapest By Blimp" is a very nice dreamy number. Give Mr. Dolby an E for effort for even attempting to cover George Clinton - the song, however, doesn't do well. "Pulp Culture" sounds very stilted to me, and if "it doesn't mean a thing/if you ain't got that/ability to swing", Mr. Dolby doesn't mean a thing. A decent collection all told.
