Free Music Notes for Aliens Ate My BuickFree Music Review: A departure from the techno-age Hit: 5 Stars
This album was different than his previous ones, but it is more electric. Totally full of energy and sass that deserved more credit from the critics. It's like no other. I saw the theatrics of his stage show in support of this album and it blew me away. Play "Pulp Culture" very loud!

I have alwsys loved this CD. Sure it feels a little dated but they lyrics and music are still great. Can highly recomend it to anyone with not mainstream music tastes !! the opening track sets it up perfectly for me. "I want the keys to your Ferrari. And a '63 GTO at that. Says it all.

I just cannot believe how hidden this album is. It has such classic Dolby experimentation. From salsa to swing and all with a digital edge. LOVE IT
Free Music Review: Revisiting a classic Hit: 4 Stars
I had been a voracious collector of Thomas Dolby's music since 1985 with the release of "The Flat Earth". Well, 3 years went buy without so much as a whimper from Dolby until a friend of mine called me during the spring of 1988 to tell me that a new album had just been released. I was at the record store within minutes.
The spring of 1988 was a very bittersweet time for me. I was just about to graduate high school, I just got my first car, and I had just experienced my first serious heartbreak. Two things got me through this time in my life; my friends and this album.
"Budapest By Blimp" seemed to echo the bittersweet mentality that I was experiencing at the time and I have recently dug the CD up out of my collection and have been listening to it for the past few days. Here I am 20 years later and I find that "Budapest" still touches me deep inside.
Despite the fact that "AAMB" is forever trapped in the '80s, the music and lyrics are still deep and meaningful and have withstood the test of time. Dolby has always been an underappreciated musician and lyricist, but this album, more than any other (IMHO), is the best example of his artistic brilliance.
Most people remember him because of "She Blinded Me With Science", but by the time "AAMB" was released, it was evident that he had grown and matured as a songwriter and was capable of much more meaningful work than a simple '80s pop tune.
Highly recommneded for Dolby fans and for music fans in general.
Free Music Review: One of my favorites Hit: 4 Stars
The whole reason I bought this album at all is I saw him in concert for the AAMB tour. He and his band gave a great, energetic performance, and the lyrics to the music are witty and poignant, and the music itself is varied and fun. The production value is very good, but he and his band were excellent musicians, so I suspect it was pretty easy to make them sound great.
To address the complaint about there being no emotion - I have to mention that I watched an interview with Dolby shortly after this album came out. Airhead is derived from his experience dating a particular woman who was very smart but who had succumbed to the peer pressure on women to dumb themselves down. Dolby's songs aren't heartwrenchingly emotional - a lot of them are a bit more subtle, and some of them are just fun. Not everything needs to be deep and meaningful. "She Blinded Me With Science" isn't exactly a paragon of poetic artistry.
This remains one of my favorite albums in my collection. Give it a try and don't expect to hear New Wave music.
