Free Music Notes for Thoroughly Modern Millie (2002 Original Broadway Cast)Free Music Review: If I may opine - this is the best broadway CD you'll ever find! Hit: 5 Stars
I purchased the CD knowing nothing about the show when my yearly subscription to my local theater included Millie. When it came time to see the show a few months later I knew every word to every song having listened to it continuously. The CD is that good. It has turned into my all time favorite CD as well as show. (I ended up seeing it three times!)
Sutton Foster's voice was really showcased in "Not For The Life Of Me", "Jimmy" and my favorite "Gimme Gimme". Ms. Foster has such a powerful range and it's almost like these songs were written specifically for her. You will truly be singing along. You'll not only be singing but also performing a little foot tapping of your own to go along with the pros in "The Speed Test". This song is not meant for listening to in the car for all you'll want to do is dance! The entire cast is perfectly chosen. You will just love the duet "How The Other Half Lives" with Ms. Foster and Angela Christian. Prior to even seeing the show I felt the personalities of each really showed just via this song. Marc Kurdisch in "The Speed Test" was amazing! He sang so quickly it reminded me of that fast talking guy from the commercials (FedEx??) from years ago. I could go on and on - everybody was wonderful!!
The CD booklet itself is worth the $$ as it comes with a write-up about the Broadway show as well as photos.
Buy this CD if you love Broadway in the least! Heck even if you're not a Broadway fan - you will be after this CD!!!
Free Music Review: This CD makes my day!! Hit: 5 Stars
I love theatre but Jazz is not really my taste. So when I heard reports of how good the show Thoroughly Modern Millie is, I was not sure how good this is going to be. So I bought this soundtrack and found that it is so GOOD!! All the music are brilliantly written (most of the songs are jazz but some of them are more classic- a bit like Disney), the orchestra is brilliant (Tony award for best orchestration) the cast are equally brilliant too. Among them Sutton Foster shines above all!! She has a clear and beautiful voice but above all she portrayed Millie with such great emotions. I love every song in this album but especially the song "Forget About the Boy". The emotion and effort Sutton puts in make me really feel how she felt. I can almost imagine the way she sang it on stage. This musical is so good that I went all the way to New York from UK just to catch her last performance!! Buy it! You won't regret!! You can trust me coz even I who don't like jazz can fall in love with this CD!! (Note: I recently recommend this CD to my friend who HATES Jazz like Chicago and he also fell in love with it!!) You can listen to longer clips of the soundtrack at www.modernmillie.com
Free Music Review: THE BEST BROADWAY I'VE EVER HEARD Hit: 5 Stars
As a longtime fan of the 1967 Julie Andrews/ Mary Tyler Moore film "Thoroughly Modern Millie," when I heard it had become a Broadway show, I was both excited and skeptical. The inevitable question arose: "can it live up to the film?" The answer is YES, and then some! Of course many changes were made to create the transition from screen to stage, and the ending result is a Broadway show that is brilliantly done in its own right. The cast is exceptional, especially Sutton Foster; what a talent! I have listened to this CD a thousand times already and I am still blown-away by her energy and unique talent. Every song is infectious, comical, exciting, and fun. This whole CD, from beginning to end, is a "Thoroughly" enjoyable experience. You won't have to skip through tracks on this CD, but you will want to put it on "repeat"! My only warning is that as soon as you hear this, you will want to see the actual show, which is unfortunately impossible for those of us who live on the other side of the country! Luckily, I still have the original 1967 movie (also heartily recommended) and this delightful Broadway soundtrack to enjoy!
Free Music Review: Best Musical of the year......... Hit: 5 Stars
Thoroughly Modern Millie is a hilarious new musical that lives up to all the accolades it is receiving. Sutton Foster is absolutely perfect in the role of Millie Dillmount. Her voice is wonderful, and he nails every single note she sings. She has a great range, from quite and reserved singing all the way to broadway diva-ish belting. She deserved the Best Actress Tony, and she got it for her wonderful performance here. Harriet Harris is hilarious in her role as Mrs. Meers. "They Don't Know" is a great song performed by her. Extremely enjoyable. She almost steals the show, just like she stole the hearts of the voters to win the Best Featured Actress Tony. Gavin Creel, Marc Kudisch, Angela Christian plays out their roles wonderfully, shining in each of their respective roles. Both men received Tony nominations for their performances, and they are well-deserved, as you can hear on this recording. Even the chorus sounds wonderful in this new show that is currently taking over Broadway. The ensemble is as strong a group as any show you can think of. A wonderful show, with a wonderful cast recording. Definately a must-have.
Free Music Review: Thank Goodness for Sutton (and Millie) Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is amazing, the show is even more amazing...this show is exactly what Broadway musicals should be like...no more boring operettas from England, PLEASE!! Let's get back to the best shows with huge dance numbers! Millie is just the show Broadway has needed for a long time. But of course the best part of this show is Sutton Foster...her voice is the best to be heard on Broadway in YEARS...and Broadway has the BEST singing in the world! Sutton Foster's voice has incredible versatility and character, just what a Broadway actress needs. She hits notes that NO other person in the world can. If you were lucky enough to see her as Eponine in Les Miserabels in 1999, you know what I mean. When she sings "On My Own" it is like nothing else. The climax of that song is amazing and Sutton hits it with more power than anyone else could. Go to see this show! GO GO GO! Then buy this CD so you can listen to Suttons amazing "Gimme Gimme" every day! Sutton Foster will be back on Broadway for sure. I can't wait for her next endeavor I will be there for sure! Sutton will knock your socks off for sure...ask anyone you has heard her sing
