Free Music Notes for Jesus Christ Superstar: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack AlbumFree Music Review: JCS-Masterpiece suffers from dated audio. Hit: 4 Stars
I love JCS. Lets get get that straight first. The original (Concept) album was playing all through my childhood. And I loved it. The movie was a spiritual and amazing rock experience. So, many years later when I saw the original movie soundtrack on CD in a pawn shop, I jumped on it. (This is not the remastered version.) The songs are great, and tonight I just finished watching the remastered DVD. Now, I thought the audio quality on the CD was bad. But I expected this because it was from an old original soundtrack. But now that I have seen and heard the remastered DVD movie, I am blown away! The images and the music are on par with a modern classic! This made me realize that the CD soundtrack was even worse than I thought. Whatever they did to the remastered movie, they should do to the remastered CD! I think I am going to just burn off a copy of the DVD audio just for my own pleasure! P.S. I will be attending the live version of JCS for the first time in just a few days! Then I can compare that experience as well!
Free Music Review: Just a Clarification Hit: 4 Stars
While I certainly respect everyone's right to like or dislike the motion picture soundtrack (and isn't the whole reason for these reviews to provide as many points of view as possible?), I'd like to point one important thing out. Having been associated with this year's touring company of JCS, I have come to find out that Lloyd Webber has total and absolute artistic control over ALL aspects of EVERY production, be it JCS, Cats, Phantom, etc. Every musical composition in EVERY one of his shows has his approval or it doesn't go in..in fact virtually everything you hear in these shows was penned by messers Lloyd Webber and Rice... Bottom line, if you don't like the extra songs, e-mail the guys at The Really Useful Group, they're on the web.
Free Music Review: The best musical in the world! Hit: 4 Stars
Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice are amazing! I have listened to this ten million times in five different recordings and I love them all! This particular recording's strong points are that it has Ted Neely, my favorite for Jesus, and Carl Anderson, my favorite for Judas. It also has "Could We Start Again, Please?" and "Then We Are Decided" which are only on the soundtrack recording. Joshua Mostel isn't the best singer as King Herod and the sound gets kind of funny during the 40 lashes though. If I were you, I would buy this soundtrack recording and the original broadway cast recording (I have both). That way you get the good parts from both. I hope you love it as much as I do!
Free Music Review: Better than the rest! Hit: 4 Stars
When I first saw this musical back in junior high, i hated it because, going to a Catholic school, it went against some of what I was taught, but I never forgot the music. I just recently saw the traveling production with the original Judas (Carl Anderson as Judas) and Sebastian Bach as Jesus. I first want to say that it was interesting to see a rock star play the son of God and to see the original Judas, but one thing that got on my nerves was Bach was constantly wailing; like he was trying to sing in a rock show. This soundtrack with the original Jesus is a lot better.
Free Music Review: Great Music, Ok Quality Hit: 4 Stars
This is an awesome rendition and every actor and actress seems to be very talented. The sound quality is not the best but the quality of the actors and actresses definatley make up for it. I personally emjoy the Decca Broadway Original Cast Album better, but the version of it I have is not the full musical, just select songs, which is dissapointing, making this album the best one out there. Hope you found this helpful!!!
