Free Music Notes for Jesus Christ Superstar: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack Album

Free Music Review: Amazing Musical
Hit: 5 Stars

Unlike previous reviews, I have to say that this version of JCS, is much better than the "original cast" version. Ted Neely and Carl Anderson shine here. Their performances are more emotional, more dynamic and more powerful than any other version I have heard to date. I was disappointed when I got the "original cast" CD as a gift and went out and bought this one since I already had the DVD of the movie. Andrew Lloyd Weber and Tim Rice have created some of the best "rock-opera/musical" songs to date. There's no doubt the music is dated to the early 70's, but that's the fun of it. A must have for any musical fan.

Free Music Review: Neeley Is Superb
Hit: 5 Stars

I have BOTH of the JCS CD's and this one is my favorite. Part of the reason for that is that I was lucky enough to see the stage version both with and without Ted Neeley. There was no comparison. While I thought that perhaps after so many renditions, he might be stale, I quickly saw such was not the case. While Ian Gillan may have a slightly more melodious voice, the emotion and power of Neeley's full performance adds so much more soul to both the title character and play. This comes through the sound track, as it came through both the movie and the stage production.

This has become a Holy Week staple at my home.

Free Music Review: Incredible
Hit: 5 Stars

At a time when this entire depiction of the life of Christ was debated between by the church and the world because of it's rock and roll tone and different areas of bold symbolism, this collection has proven itself through the music and bold lyrics which have reached out to generation after generation, including my own. I was introduced to this music by my mother who loved the musical. My father, however, fell into the category who felt that the actualy depiction was almost sacreligious. Therefore, I was brought up with both points of view and yet love it regardless.

Free Music Review: A perfect parallel
Hit: 5 Stars

If you love Andrew Lloyd Webber's movie Jesus Christ Superstar it is probably because of the music. I have heard many recordings but what I really wanted was the voices I heard in the movie. Carl Anderson(Judas Iscariot)has an unforgetable passion. Mary Magdalene(performed by Yvonne Elliman) has a beautiful quality of voice. This recording may seem raw to some listeners, but it parallels the movie in that respect. If you are looking for the sounds and mental images of the motion picture this album is a must.

Free Music Review: Ted Neeley is awesome!
Hit: 5 Stars

I read the previous reviews and i was shocked to find out that many people don't lik his voice! "Gesthamane" always brings tears to my eyes, especially with ted's voice. Carl Anderson is impressive, too. Mary Magdalene sort of gets on my nerves, and I can't stand Herod. Pontius Pilot gives a powerful performance, though. Those of you who are debating on wether to get the original recording or the motion picture soundtrack, get the motion picture soundtrack!
