Free Music Review: Yeow! What a great singer!

I am so amazed at what a singer Timi Yuro is - and how little attention she draws. She is one of the greats & this collection is the best. Her wailing on What's a matter baby ranks up there with the great Atlantic soul shouters of the 1950's & 60's. Gotta travel on is a genuinely weird but affecting rework of the Billy Grammar hit. My Prayer is probably the best version I've ever heard of that song. The orchestrations & arrangements are exquisite. The rumors I heard back in the 80's were that Timi was dead and that she was African-American - many people had the same misconceptions at the time because she seemed to have disappeared. She was Italian-American and was alive until 2005 and lived her last years in Vegas. Her final recordings were the duets recorded around 1985 with Willy Nelson after which cancer apparently silenced her gorgeous voice - I only wish she had recorded with Roy Orbison or Tom Jones - her voice was that powerful. I can't recommend this collection highly enough - singers don't get any better, music doesn't get any better than what you'll hear on this wonderful cd. Deserves 10 stars.
