Free Music Notes for Tin Man - Original Television Soundtrack
Free Music Review: This is wonderful music!
Hit: 5 Stars
If you are a fan of music from fantasy movies, such as Lord of the Rings, or Harry Potter, you will probably enjoy this album. However, I felt that the music was its own entity. It does not sound exactly like anything I've heard. Many of the songs are action based, with driving beats, you feel as if you are being pushed forward. However, there are also beautiful tunes and calm melodies that simply carry you easily through the song.
The main theme is probably the strongest (and best recognised) tune, although that could be because it plays through parts of several songs on the album. This is never annoying, or monotonous, however, but instead the tune comes at just the right time, and enhances each song.
All the songs are wonderful, but here are some of my faves:
Tin Horse and Adora's Grave - Both of these songs deal with Cain and the loss (or presumed loss) of his loved ones. It is the saddest and most beautiful music on the album.
Maze - This is the song that plays when DG is running through the maze to get to Finaqua. It is one of the most driven songs, you feel as if you are running through the maze yourself.
Speaking of feeling like you're running through the maze, I'd like to take a moment to say how well this music matches each scene in the mini series. It accompanies the scenes and adds to them, either subtly or heavily, as is required. One of my favorite things about listening to this album is that it is so easy for me to picture some of my favorite scenes from the series.
Back to the songs...
Leaving Central City - Has an almost jazz like feel in the beginning, followed by melodic strings, then accompanied by powerful horns.
Mirror vision - The song that plays when DG sees the vision of her young self in the mirror. In some parts, it has an almost eerie quality to it, which makes sense, considering what is happening in the show when we hear it. The strings in this song are amazing.
Lake - This song, wow! It plays when Az remembers the dolls that she and DG built for their father. Just like Mirror Vision, it has a somewhat eerie quality to it, but there is beauty to it as well. I love it, because just through the music you get a sense for AZ's situation, that part of her feels like she needs the witch, but another part wants desperately to break free.
New Dawn in the O.Z. - This is the music that plays at the end of the film. I love it because it feels very uplifting. Everything is fine and everyone is ok. You definitely get a sense of that through the song. It makes me happy and I think it is a great way to end both the movie and the album.
So, in conclusion, I think that if you liked the series, you will probably really enjoy having the album, listening to it, and remembering your favorite scenes. If you didn't see the movie, or even if you did and didn't like it, you could still enjoy the music for its own sake. Honestly, if I had heard this music before watching the show, I still would have loved it.
