Free Music Notes for FanmailFree Music Review: Wow. This is some amazing stuff. Hit: 5 Stars
This is really some hip stuff. I've never had one of TLC's albums before, and I bought "Fanmail" at a risk. After listening to it, it was totally paid back 10 times over. This is great--- the talent is really apparent. Now I don't know about any of you here, but I've never really liked listening to rap, hip-hop, and R&B. But TLC changed that for me. Not every song is catchy like the now-almost-overplayed "No Scrubs," but the less catchy songs compensate in a way that they kinda "grow" on you the more you listen to them. This album is versatile. There is such a wonderful change in rhythm and beat, you're bound to find at least ONE song besides "No Scrubs" that you'll totally fall for. Some of my faves are "Unpretty," "My Life," and "I'm Good At Being Bad." TLC's "Fanmail" totally rocks! T-Boz, Left-Eye, and Chilli's vocals blend together like a smooth piece of woven silk. It's great music to listen to for splashing paint on canvas or when you're just gonna kick back in a pair of casual sneaks on a slow Sunday afternoon--- it's a perfect energy booster! The only setback is that I've read everywhere that Left-Eye's rap on "No Scrubs" can only be heard on the Import version. So take a note of that if you dig Left-Eye.
Free Music Review: REALLY REALLY SPIFFY! Hit: 5 Stars
Oh my god, I was TRULY impressed with this album. I think it'sTLC's best album yet. Fanmail--good cover song. Very well done.Silly Ho--this is my FAVORITE song on the album. The beat is tight and the lyrics are kickin! No Scrubs--you all heard this song so you decide I'm Good At Being Bad--third favorite. OMG. It's great. Especially since it goes from soft and romantic to fast and energetic. If They Knew--not the greatest but the beat is still awsome. I Miss You You So Much--I don't like ballads all that much and I love this song. Unpretty--you all heard this song so you decide My Life--second favorite. The beat is awsome and the words are somethin you could really relate to. Shout--this is one of those songs that gets stuck in your head and you really don't mind. It's sooooo awsome. Come On Down--mmmmmkay but not the greatest. Gets annoying after a while. Dear Lie--you all heard this song so you decide Lovesick--love this song. The music is sooo cool because it sounds like a computer (and I'm a huge computer nerd) Automatic--catchy Don't Pull Out On Me Yet--Not the greatest but it's still cool. This is one of those albums that you like almost every song on the album (well, those who are really really really into R&B like me) Trust me, if you like No Scrubs, you'll LOVE this.
Free Music Review: Just like you, they get lonely too... Hit: 5 Stars
FanMail skyrocketed TLC to a whole new level of fame and success. After an almost 5-year hiatus from the music scene, skeptics had their eye on TLC's comeback album. They delivered with a bang! The radio hit "Silly Ho" had everyone talking about TLC again since 1995, when "Waterfalls" was released. Then Shékspere's (Pink's "There U Go" and Destiny's Child's "Bills, Bills, Bills") "No Scrubs" caused women all over the world to sing along to the unemployed, undriven, and unmotivated men of the world: "no, I don't want no scrub/a scrub is a guy that can't get no love from me/hanging out the passenger side of his best friend's ride/trying to holler at me." TLC were hitting us back harder than ever with a sound only they could pull off flawlessly and an album to match. The eclectic and futuristic feel of the album was not only trendsetting, but universal. The album was of all genres and colors. From the hip-hop/rap style of the controversial "I'm Good At Being Bad" to the country (Shania Twain-gish) style of "Come On Down," TLC had the music game on lock. And even amist all of the controversy within the group itself, the girls kept in tact all of their love for each other, and kept surviving as 'the best selling female group in music history."
Free Music Review: Scorching Hot! Hit: 5 Stars
Now, first I would like to thank TLC for introducing me to R&B. I was only listening to contemporary pop before they release this album. In 1999, TLC released this much-anticipated 3rd studio album. And man, its awesome!
I was really addicted to the #1 hit single 'No Scrubs'. This is the song that got me into all the R&B stuff now. You must be crazy if you don't like this song. Very catchy with a catchy hook. 2nd single 'Unpretty' is great as well. Talks about your inner beauty and insecurities. Produced by Dallas Austin.
Practically the whole album is good. Other favorites include 'I Miss You So Much' (a very nice ballad), 'Shout', 'Dear Lie', 'Don't Pull On Me Yet', 'If They Knew' and the Diane Warren-penned 'Come On Down'. BUT 'Silly Ho' sucks! The only wack song. Very irritating beat and background vocals. This album is very 'in' and hip. Although some songs are man-bashing songs, I love the beats. Its all hot! No Scrubs was nominated for Record Of The Year bur falied to clutch that title. They won for Best Contemporary R&B album though.
A great record to end the millennium. Totally cool and R&B-ish. Great work TLC. RIP Lisa.
Free Music Review: IT'S "AUTOMATIC" THAT I'M "LOVESICK" OVER THESE "SILLY HOES" Hit: 5 Stars
WELL, THEY DID IT AGAIN. SEE IT WAS HARD TO REALLY LOVE THE ALBUM FROM THE VERY BEGINNING BECAUSE IT WAS SO DIFFERENT FROM THEIR OLD RELAXED STYLE, THAT U HAD TO KEEP LISTENING A COUPLE OF TIMES. WHAT THEY DID WAS TAKE A CHANCE ON GOING ALL OUT. WHICH MEANS THAT THEY TOOK A BIG RISK. IT PAYED OFF- I'M SURE. THEY OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T WANT TO STAY IN A COMFORT ZONE. BUT THEY NEVER DO. THE FIRST ALBUM WAS MORE RAPPISH AND BLUNT. THE SECOND, THEY SLIPPED INTO SEXINESS AND SANG COMFORTABLY AND FROM THE HEART AS IF THEY WERE CHILLING AGAINST THE WALL AT THE SAME TIME. THEN, HERE, THEY JUMPED INTO THE FUTURISTIC VIBE. SO? WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT? NOT TOO MANY ARTISTS ARE WILLING TO DO THAT. AND THESE GIRLS CAME BACK BROKE! REALLY RISKING MONEY. IF A PERSON CAME BACK FROM THE 1800'S, AND JUST STARED AT THE COVER AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC OF TLC VERSUS SOME OTHERS, WHO WOULD CONVINCE HIM FATSRE THAT THE MILLENIUM WAS COMING? TLC! CHILLI- YOUR VOICE IS BOLD AND BEAUTIFUL. I JUST WISH I UNDERSTOOD WHAT THEY WERE SAYING A LIL BETTER. AND YES, THE WORDS WERE EXPLICIT, OUT OF THE NORM FOR THEM, BUT THEY EASED INTO THAT. THEY DIDN'T JUST LEAVE INNOCENT AND COME BACK HARD. LOVE YOU GIRLS!
