Just out of curiosity, I purchased the new cd 3 weeks ago. I initially thought the cd was garbage; the first couple of tracks sound shitty plus the profanity and obscene lyrics are too much. After hearing the words "bitch", "hoes" "10 inch dick" and other I wasnt impressed, particular with the voulgar and tasteless "Bitch Like Me". But one of the best surprise tracks I like, "If they Knew" is surprising, it featues a rebellous Lisa Lopes rapping and chatting hardcore style. The album is much different than Crazy in the way that Rozanda, Tionne and Lisa are promoted as seperate vocalist, writers and producers. Rozanda Thomas sound more electric this time as croons two of the 2 ballads by herself ("I miss u so much" and "come on down") as well as the only member in the album version of "No Scrubs". For Tionne's part she seem like she didnt put much effort in the singing part, but the album is still worth purchasing. Other tracks I like is the banging "Lovesick", "automatic" and "Unpretty".
Free Music Review: Three Wild and Crazy Girls (with a witty producer) Hit: 5 Stars
I bought it for No Scrubs which I considered one of the best songs of 1999 but the ablum pleased me to death. I like albums I can listen to from start to finish and this is certainly one! It goes from a sort of Smash Mouth Meets Brian Eno begining with Fan Mail into a put-on Asian sounding Silly Ho (anyone remember Domo Aregato Mister Robato?) Then No Scrubs (I sing that song to myself when Girls give me the heave-ho-ho-ho). I'm Good At Being Bad was a little shocking. It's starts off so pretty and goes into sort of Hip Hop tantrum! I Miss You So Much and Dear Lie makes you check the CD to see if Mariah Carey or Janet Jackson had suddenly came on. They are simply beatiful songs! Reminds me a lot of Savage Garden's I Knew I Loved You Before I Met You. They're that deep and beautiful! And the album just keeps going strong. One of the best CDs of the 1990s! Nice fold-out inner cover. I have to give a nod to Dallas Austin (their George Martin and 4th TLC member) who did some great producing.
Free Music Review: the girls are back and just as hot as ever Hit: 5 Stars
as you probably now T-boz, Left Eye, and Chilli are back!!!! there super mega hit "no scrubs" has ruled the charts and is the first offical song off the album. Chilli lifts her voice on such tracks as "no scrubs", "i miss you so much" "come on down" and her phat duet with T-boz "don't back out on me yet". T-Boz makes huge hits out of her solos "silly ho", "dear lie", and her hit featuring chilli "unpretty". Left eye shines bright as a superb female rapper on tracks such as "i'm good at being bad", "if they knew", "my life", "shout" and the "no scrubs" (REMIX). the no scrubs with an extra rap verse by Left eye is the remix and DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE ALBUM!!!!! also about the explicit lyrics is so phoney in dear lie T-Boz says "instead i'm f**ked" and that is pretty much the only song with explicit lyrics besided "i'm good at being bad"
Free Music Review: Ahead of its time Hit: 5 Stars
When I first bought this album in 1999, it didn't sound like anything else out there. Listening to it today, what's most striking is that it now sounds like something you could hear at almost any time on the radio. I mean that as a compliment. TLC proved with this album that they didn't follow trends, they created them. It's a shame they can never make music anymore, but they did leave behind impressive albums, like this one. "No Scrubs" didn't sound like anything on radio at the time; now it's almost impossible to not find a ripoff of that song on the radio. "Unpretty" was surprisingly inspiring and another huge hit for the trio. My favorite song is probably "I'm Good at Being Bad" simply because it is nasty and completely tuneful at the same time. This is an outstanding album that was ahead of the curve. It sounds like it could have been made today, and it is that very thing that will ensure that TLC's legacy will never be forgotten.
