Free Music Review: Sheer genius! Hit: 5 Stars
Master of the word as a sword, Tom's tracks on this set slice through the current events of decades ago -- saying everything that you and I were thinking in the darkest recesses of our minds (if you were around then as I was). Listening to him today is the delicious zenith of political incorrectness.Man, I miss this guy. Even if you haven't reached your twentieth birthday, if you've got class, you'll treasure these songs... they occupy the same mountaintop as Firesign and Monty Python's original TV episodes. My highest recommendation -- and thanks to Tom for releasing this set!
Free Music Review: A song suitably inappropriate for any occasion... Hit: 5 Stars
I first became acquainted with Tom Lehrer's musical repertoire in high school, via a tape that was a copy of a tape that was made by running a cassette recorder in the same room where an ancient and worn record was playing. The lyrical genius was clear, despite the decrepit quality of my recording.
I was delighted to find this CD set. Tom Lehrer songs are a mainstay of my nonexistent social life, being pulled out whenever the situation demands, or despairs. (For example, my darling brother sang "She's My Girl" to my sister in law at their wedding rehearsal dinner...)
Free Music Review: I just ordered it and I love it already Hit: 5 Stars
I have loved Tom Lehrer's sense of humor since my college days in the '50's and even more since I had the privilege of see him perform on stage at MIT in 1960. There is no one else like him and the second I saw the review in TIME Magazine, I knew I would pay anything for this album. I was very pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price. This is a must for TL fans but if you don't know him you should buy it and see what you've been missing. Someone asked him if he would ever tour again and he said, "Has hell frozen over?" Thanks, Tom, for this album.
Free Music Review: Most beautiful box set I've ever seen Hit: 5 Stars
Tom Lehrer is brilliant, and some of the other reviews will eloquently tell you why. Chances are if you are looking at this item, you already know his brilliance. Even if you have the original CDs, you may want to get this, for it is the most beautiful box set I have ever seen. The hardcover, full color book has fun comments, Mad Magazine excerpts, and all the lyrics. The only improvement I could think of is I wish the "Critical disdain for Tom Lehrer" sticker that is on the shrink wrap had been put in a place where it could stay in good condition.
