Free Music Notes for The Live Anthology (4 CD)Free Music Review: BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! Hit: 5 Stars
Petty has time and time again proven his loyalty to his fan base. Not only releasing great albums one after another but in these retrospective box sets. I became a huge Petty fan after a friend recommended the running down a dream box set that I bought new for $15 that included 4 discs! And now he puts out 4 disc box of live cuts, ones not filled with the greatest hits only but great album tracks and awesome renditions of some superb covers. The sound quality on this is amazing, I know there is a version with the music on a blu-ray but I can't imagine the tracks sounding any better. This is a home run for the die hards and the casual fans alike. Under $20 for all this music is outrageous. At least in the throw away age of digital music Petty and the heartbreakers are keeping the album format alive with these sweet offerings. One of the greatest live sets available.
Free Music Review: Great band, as always. Hit: 5 Stars
For those of you who, like me, can't afford to drop >$100 bucks on the more deluxe version of this set, this is a pretty good value. The tracks are excellent, and well-edited to blend together and give you the feel of being at a long epic concert. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are a great live band (I've seem them at least five times), and no CD could do justice to how much fun a Tom Petty concert experience is, BUT, this is still an amazing live album and I highly recommend it. The quality of the live recordings is excellent. Tracks from all eras of his career are on here, which is a testament to just how long he's been putting out great music. TP & THB are an American musical treasure, and this is a great snapshot of fantastic musicians who also happen to be great entertainers. If you like Tom Petty at all, you need to get this.
Free Music Review: Thank You!!! Hit: 5 Stars
I want to thank the band for this collection.
I have seen this band here 'n' there for a few shows over the years and I am always inspired, entertained, and leave the show with a smile on my face. I appreciate the history and "props" they give to those who came before through their own tunes and the covers that appear in the live setting.
All I can really say about this colection is that if you like rock 'n' swingin', bluesy, in your face, make you wanna dance and jump and spin and think and smile and grin and just grooooooooove ... buy this.
I have bought every "album" from the Heartbreakers and will continue to do so.
Thanks guys,
Stop by for a beer and a BBQ when you're in town.
Free Music Review: Great boxset for an awesome price Hit: 5 Stars
What an awesome boxset. From start to finish there are many great tracks. Opening with "Nightwatchmen", a "Breakdown" which includes a short "Hit The Road Jack", covers of "I'm The Man", Thunderclap Newman's "Something In The Air" & the Dead's "Ripple". I can go on listing every song, but they are all excellent. The sound is crisp and the selections combine all of the hits with many other obscure tracks. Then the price....4 discs for this cheap. I recently bought the Rolling Stones "Get Your Ya' Ya's Out" 40th Anneversary box, and although good, all 4 discs cost more than double the Tom Petty box and all 4 discs are only half full of music (unlike the Petty box). Whether a diehard or a casual Tom Petty fan, this is a must have!
Free Music Review: Must-have treasure trove for the Tom Petty fan! Hit: 5 Stars
You can't go wrong with the variety and musicianship on display in this generous sampling of great hits, rarities, and covers from Tom and the band. The bargain-priced 4-CD set contains concert recordings made between the late 1970s and late 2000s, all of which have been expertly remastered. If you thrilled to the 2007 Scorsese documentary, which included truncated versions of many live tunes, then snap up this collection. Experience the glorious, full-throttle sound of what for my money is the hardest working band in show business. Petty is a brilliant songwriter, guitarist, and leader, and he won't back down, which is why the Heartbreakers are still together and still rocking as hard as they ever have after so many years.
