Free Music Review: Have To Have It If You Love Tom Petty
Hit: 5 Stars

It's really just this simple:

If you have a collection of Tom Petty CDs, you MUST own this as well.

Lots of great previously unreleased GOOD songs, lots of faves and some with a twist never heard before, and a lot of love. I dug the comment about how "it was a honor to play for you tonight" that is on one of the CDs - I forget even which song it is, but it was cool, regardless.

Great price, too, considering the bulk. But then again, I'm hopelessly biased, and he is one of my top all time favorite artists.

My favorite line of Tom's all-time: "Well I didn't go to bed/didn't go to work/picked up the telephone/told your boss he was a jerk" (Anything That's Rock n' Roll)

Free Music Review: this is so good that it inspired me to get the deluxe version, even for $100.
Hit: 5 Stars

i initially bought just the bargain priced 4 cd set & was blown away by the vitality of the tracks. i decided to splurge and buy the $100 deluxe box set which has the bonus Disc 5. the deluxe box is packed with alot of good extras which will take me a few days to get through. it's a treat to have the full box.

i think the live version of alot of the songs are even better than than the studio version. the editing together of various performances is seamless, making the disc sound like one continuous concert.

whether u have the 4 disc set or the deluxe box, it's the great music within that counts. this set might for me rival Cheap Trick's Budokan for best live lp ever.

Free Music Review: Tom Petty IS the soundtrack to America
Hit: 5 Stars

I bought "Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers" back in '76 when I lived in Scotland and loved his sound. Now I think that he has created the 30 year soundtrack to my life in America. This set was even better than I thought it'd be. It is GREAT! The live versions are full of his passion - and pain - and spirit. (Some "older" musicians don't hold up well - not so with Petty. I think he had held true to his art.) The versions of "Refugee" and "Ballad of Mary Jane" are brilliant and better than the originals. A few of my favorites are not included (eg "You Wreck Me","I Need To Know") so that's a shame, but you can't have everything. It's still great.

Free Music Review: One of the best
Hit: 5 Stars

An excellent album with some real gems. The usual "greatest hits" types selections are here but you've got to give TP kudos for selecting some more unusual cuts in both his material and others. How many live albums can you name where the artist includes one-off covers? For crying out loud they did Goldfinger and Green Onions on this album!

An excellent buy in the quality/selection of the material, the audio quality and just pure bang for the buck. I guess the one good side effect of everybody going to digital downloads is that those of us that buy entire cds are currently getting some tremendous deals.

Free Music Review: great live sound and atmosphere
Hit: 5 Stars

This 4 cd set is sensational value for money. The sound quality is first class throughout, and although there are one or two duff tracks (Diddy Wah Diddy must be one of the most irritating songs in the history of rock!)Tom and his band really rock-on in style. CD's 1 and 2 are best, because they contain the most hits. If you like Tom Petty you have got to buy this box set. The band are enjoying themselves on stage and this comes across to the listener. (You should note that the individual cds in their carboard sleeves slide a little too easily out of their container. So carry the box set carefully).
