Free Music Notes for Anthology: Through the YearsFree Music Review: Excellent summary of Tom's MCA years Hit: 5 Stars
First of all, in answer to anyone who wishes songs from "wildflowers" were included, or any song from any of Tom's or the Heartbreakers' albums after "Into the Great Wide Open", this is a compilation of hits from Tom's years with MCA, of which any of those songs are not a part. You might also complain that Tom didn't need to release another hits package while still an active artist. Again, it was MCA, not tom, who released this package, and presumable, they could care less about his music recorded for other labels. That having been said, this collection is excellent for fan or newbie alike. Each song is a gem, and this collection would serve as a great introduction to Tom petty, or a great mix tape for the seasoned collector.
Free Music Review: Tom Petty & The Heartybreakers -- The Ultimate Jam Band Hit: 5 Stars
Tom Petty & The Heartybreakers -- The Ultimate Jam Band T shirts that were on sale at the recent Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers concert at Jones Beach, NY, read "Quality Music Since 1976" and you can't argue with that statement. Petty has been kicking out hits since then, from "American Girl" to "Mary Jane" and along the way he & the Heartbreakers have evolved into not just a great pop band but some fierce players as well. Using the 3 minute hits as a springboard, the band took off several times with Petty pulling out James Brown hits & stops that would make Prince scream and showed the group's telkinetic tightness. These guys are for real. Check 'em out if you can.
Free Music Review: Just Amazing!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
For a 57 yr old guy who never even bothered to listen to Mr. Petty and his fabulous band I have been pleasantly surprised. Blame it on the DVD "Runnin Down a Dream". Having seen that several times (because it blew me away) I knew it was time to get a real taste of Tom's music. This anthology gives you a terrific overview of the rock and roll these guys are so good at playing. You start out wanting to hear Refugee immediately and then after awhile you realize that every song is amazing! Every song!!
I can't say enough about this collection. I'm sure all the TP&TH fans have all of these songs already but anyone out there as naive as I am who never heard them before or just casually listen....run out and buy this!!!
Free Music Review: Couldn't be any better!! Hit: 5 Stars
Since I have recieved this CD, it is ALLLL I listen to. The collection is a perfect mix of all of his best songs. It is absolutely amazing. I am so in love with this CD I can't even put it into words. Very rarely can you find a CD that you can listen to from beginning to end and not have to skip over any songs you don't like--especially since this set has 2 CDs! But I can honestly say that NOT ONCE do I have to skip any of the songs. They're all my favorites and I would suggest this CD to anyone that likes Tom Petty. Even if you only know a few of his songs, the rest WILL grow on you! I promise! 100% worth the money--don't hesitate!!
Free Music Review: Simply Vintage Petty Hit: 5 Stars
This is a must for all Petty fans. Not only for fans, but if you respect Tom Petty and like his work, this album is also for you. Sure, it has all of the great songs included in Greatest Hits, but also has much, much more. Inclusion of Hometown Blues, A Woman in Love, Straight Into Darkness, Rebels, and Jammin' Me, plus many more are great songs that finally have a collective home with other great Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers hits. This double CD set has not left my CD player since the moment I bought it! To Cameron Crowe (the genius behind this collection), kudos to you my friend.
