This album is probably the best place to start in your love affair with Tom Petty. Once you hear his music there's no going back. He has a wonderfully distinctive voice and can play both rocking upbeat songs, as well as laid back chilled out ones. There are so many brilliant songs on this compilation, it would be hard to pick out any one for special mention. Needless to say I highly recommend it!

THIS WAS A NEAR PERFECT GET TOGETHER OF SONGS FOR TOM AND THE HEARTBREAKERS. SOMETHING THAT JUST GETS TO ME IS THAT PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING HOW YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IT FEELS OR TOMS TRAVELING WILBURYS STUFF ISN'T HERE. ITS NOT ON THIS CD OR THE GREATEST HITS ONE FROM 1994 SINCE ALL THAT STUFF WAS HIM AS A SOLO ARTIST OR IN A DIFFERENT GROUP. THATS LIKE ASKING TO PUT SONGS FROM JOHN LENNON OR PAUL MCCARTNEY ON THE GREATEST HITS OF THE BEATLES. IT SHOULDN'T BE DONE.Free Music Review: The Place to Start

Yes, Greatest Hits offers a tempting single-disc overview of all the songs you know, but Anthology is a more rewarding purchase. You get all of his greatest hits as well as the essential album cuts that in some cases surpass anything that made the charts. Petty was an album artist, and if your not going to delve into those actual albums you may as well get a comprehensive compilation that does his catalogue justice.Free Music Review: great set

i've been a big fan of tom petty and the heartbreakers for a while nw. His greatest hits album was a good collection of material buy short considering tom petty and the heartbreaker's long career. Anthology covers tom petty and the heartbreaker's long career on two disc and has several songs left out on the greatest hits collection like hometown blues, woman in love, two gunslingers and stop draggin my heart around.Free Music Review: great collection

I am probably a younger fan but have been listening to Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers for years. I had been looking for a compilation album with some of my favorite songs on it (Refugee, Runnin' Down a Dream, Mary Jane's Last Dance, amongst others) after watching a great documentary about the band, and I bought this album when I found nothing better. It's a good anthology and I've enjoyed listening to it.
