Free Music Notes for The Last DJFree Music Review: A reminder of what true music is Hit: 5 Stars
A beautiful album with an all too true message.
Petty said it best himself, when he described "The Last DJ" as the first album to reach number 1 on any billboard chart without steady radio play. While this may not be the best Petty album I have ever heard, it is truly the most political. By the way that isn't a bad thing. Songs like the title track and "Dreamville" remind those of us born after 1975, both what good music is, and why we still pay good money for some albums. It is nice to see that even in the 21st century, there are still artists that are both true to their art form and successful at the the same time. For the "younger generation" this is an assertion of what the music industry could and should be.
Nothing but respect for Tom for making this album in a music industry that may have (but never should have) passed him by. Nothing but respect to one of the remaining Wilburys.
Free Music Review: telling it how it is Hit: 5 Stars
Tom Petty is back with a new album after a three year hiatous. The Last DJ is Petty's first true concept album, and it could not be about a topic more close to my heart. He speaks out against the pitiful state of the present day music industry. As anyone with half a brain knows, all of the music out there is so shallow and self-absorbed that it makes me truly sick to turn on the radio. Petty also places most of the blame for the current state of music on the heads of the record companies who want nothing more than a fast buck and not caring one bit about the content of the record as long as it sells. If you see this cd for what it is and do not expect quite the same lyrical content that you have come accustomed to hearing from Petty, it will be a welcome addition to your collection. Support Tom as he battles to bring some credebility back to the modern day music scene.
Free Music Review: Great Rock Album Hit: 5 Stars
I was a huge Tom Petty Fan in the early 80's and 90's and then I stopped buying his (an most other Classic Rock) music after Wildflowers. I recently purchased Highway Companion (Based on it's good reviews) and I loved it. I went back and purchased all of his releases I missed including Echo, She's the One, and finally 'The Last DJ'. Echo and She's the One are classic Petty and they took me a few times of playing them before the songs grew on me. With the Last DJ I wasn't sure what I was going to get (based on some of the negative reviews and the small music clips provided on Amazon). Needless to say, I just finished listening to it and I loved it. Every song on the CD was good if not great. How this CD slipped past the masses is beyond me. If you want typical Petty, this CD may not be for you...if you want a great Classic Rock Album buy it now.
Free Music Review: great new cd Hit: 5 Stars
Tom Petty's music has ALWAYS been A+ quality. Back when he did "Hard Promises," and he sang with Stevie Nicks on that great old hit "Stop Draggin My Heart Around," he's never failed to be great. I was so excited to learn THE LAST DJ would be coming out, so I HAD to rush and get it. It really does take you back to that great rock n roll, we often miss. The title track is the best cut on the record, which sounds great while discussing the slow demise of radio and the freedom or the freedom DJ's DONT HAVE anymore. The whole album is full of great songs, plus it is enhanced (extra features) for us computer lovers. Tom Petty's classic rock roots really shine here. He's always good, but I think this is better than his last album "Echo." Great great album, and I really do recommend to any rock music fan!
Free Music Review: Tom Petty is a genius! Hit: 5 Stars
I love this man more than ever now that I've heard this album. Tom had the cojones to speak his mind about how horrible the music industry has become. Take a chance to turn on the local top 40 radio or MTV. What do you get? Two chorded songs made by talentless bands and hip hop songs that are filled with nonsense. LISTEN UP!
Tom is telling you what the real music world and corporate sponsorship is like! Buying up radio stations and making the DJ's play what corporate wants played instead of the music listeners! Tom tells it like it is and now we as a consumer can do something about it by not paying those high ticket prices for concerts and making your voices be heard on radio! The RIAA wants to sue downloaders for downloading GOOD music instead of listening to what the RIAA wants you to hear! BLAH! This CD is a must have!
