Free Music Notes for The Last DJ

Free Music Review: Still Rockin' !
Hit: 5 Stars

I'm a long fan of Tom Petty. I don't really like his older stuff, but from "Full Moon Fever" and up, I've liked every song of every album. This one isn't an exception.

Although, this album has a couple songs I don't really care for. I won't list the good tracks, well because there's so few bad ones. I'd have to say there's only two tracks that I usually skip over when playing the CD: "Joe" and "Blue Sunday". "The Man Who Loves Women" is also not one of my favorites. It's a bit too retro.

All in all, the CD was definitely worth buying (and adding to my collection of all but 3 of Tom Petty's CD's). I've heard that Tom Petty is a little mad at the record companies, and it's noticeable a bit through the lyrics of these songs, but doesn't affect the likeabilty of this album. He does tend to go overboard with "Joe", though.

Free Music Review: Underrated
Hit: 5 Stars

"Echo" was a very good collection of songs by Tom Petty, but I feel the "The Last DJ" surpasses it. It is an album with depth. Personally, I really enjoy 10 of the 12 tracks, while the other two are not bad or anything. Songs like "You and Me" and "Like a Diamond" will remind listeners of the softer side of "Echo". But, the theme of the album is selling out as evident in "Money Becomes King" and the title track. This album has struggled to find radio play, as do other newer works by greats such as Bob Dylan and Aerosmith. However, the lack of pop recognition is not indicative of the quality of the album. "The Last DJ" will be a record that you will find yourself humming in the car and in the shower. Now, if it could only fins its way to radio.

Free Music Review: The Greatest R & R Band!
Hit: 5 Stars

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers is the greatest rock & roll band ever. These are absolutely fabulous musicians, great songwriters and great songs, and they just rock. ANY Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album is better than anything else out there. Around my kitchen table we occasionally debate who IS the greatest R & R band and the list goes (with rank sometimes being argued): Tom Petty & the HBs, Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band, Steve Miller, Bruce Springsteen, The Animals, The Who, (some people like..Rolling Stones), Chuck Berry, Warren Zevon (maybe not so R & R always), Stevie Ray Vaughn (R & R and Blues), Kim Wilson and The Fabulous Thunderbirds..running out of room here...But ALWAYS Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers!!

Free Music Review: Really, Why all the bad reviews
Hit: 5 Stars

Tom Petty has a lot to say and it isn't pretty. "The Last DJ" alone is worth the price of admission. This is the first song I've ever known to be banned on the radio that had NO violence, sexual content, vulgar language, reference to drugs or alcohol; the more stations that banned the song, the happier I was! Tom Petty was standing up for all the DJ's and what do they do... "Joe" has to be the creepiest song ever written. Lock up all your little girls when Joe the CEO comes to town. Yes, there are lots of classic TPHB on this cd, but this is a band still going strong for three decades, not only touring, but selling out concert dates far in advance. This is a man who has fought the industry his entire career. Why? For us! Thanks TPHB.
