Free Music Notes for Frank's Wild YearsFree Music Review: This is the essence! Hit: 5 Stars
When I first purchased this album a few years ago, I was captivated and have been ever since. This is a work of genius, and it's unfortunate that it seems like it is often overlooked in favor of some of some of Waits' other albums (which are good, of course, but this is high art!). My favorite tracks are "I'll Be Gone", "Yesterday Is Here," and "Cold Cold Ground," but this isn't to exclude anything on this album, since it is a hugely brilliant concept. I love this man!
Free Music Review: The best Hit: 5 Stars
Some call it art, others call it genius, some call it one of music's finest, I chose to call it simply "the best". I've been a Wait's fan for a while, I listened mostly to his early work(closing time to Heartattak and vine),I didn't think I'd like his later, more experimental work, fearing it lacked his bluesy roots, which I enjoy. If you are thinking the same way I did, stop. This is a truly great album and I recomend it to anyone.
Free Music Review: Best Waits CD Hit: 5 Stars
Among my favorite CDs ever -- I have about 1000 CDs and this ranks in the top 10. This is Tom Waits' tribute album to Frank Sinatra. "Straight to the Top" is Waits doing Sinatra which is hilarious. In general though, great orchestration and instrumentation -- why more artists don't exhibit this level of superior creativity surprises me as it is simply an amalgamation of numerous musical influences.
Free Music Review: Amazing! Hit: 5 Stars
If you haven't heard anything else by Tom Waits before you should actually pass it up because you won't realize how awesome it is. You kind of have to be brought in slowly so to speak because, if you don't, you'll think it's really screwed up and abrasive. But once you hear some Tom you'll say well that was great but I actually like his stuff that is a little more out there.
Free Music Review: Awesome! Hit: 5 Stars
This was the first Tom Waits Album I heard, and I became an instant fan. His other albums are great, but this is the one I think of when I think of Tom Waits. An essential to any audio library. His gritty urban vocals combined with heartfelt emotion and neo-modern Jazz instrumentals make for a very interesting Musical coaster ride. Highly recomended.
