Absolutely Amazing! Mr. Waits' talents are demonstrated completely on all 3 discs. Granted, not all of these tracks are something that you'd play for someone who has never heard of Tom Waits, but together, the set flows like very few box-sets/compilations do. Most are hits packages with b-sides and/or demos thrown in, whereas Orphans sounds just like a Waits album should, with all of the musical beauty and surprises, and a scruffy voice to keep it from getting the least bit pretentious. As for the lack of printed lyrics, it is a shame, but I would contend that it will make the listener listen that much harder, to get the full effect. The only thing I dislike about this set is that I'm now REALLY dying to see Mr. Waits play a show here in Syracuse.Free Music Review: The best batch yet

For the ages. I've been listening to this for over 2 years now randomly on the ipod shuffle. How could the creator of career-making albums, Rain Dogs, and Swordfishtrombones make a better record? Why would he even try? The king of Independents and alternative music could easily rest on his laurels, watch his kids grow up, and make an occasional album to pay the bills... Instead we get this magnum opus of 54 crafted songs that run the gamut: alt., gospel, early rock-n-roll, gutter underground rock--you get the point. Probably the true inheritor of the beat movement; his images are priceless, poetic lines innumerable, leaving us with 3 discs desert island worthy. Now this one he has no chance of topping, right?Free Music Review: Trilogy!!!

The best trilogy since LORD OF The Rings!!. No seriously, um... well time is the true test of any art and this is a new thing. I agree with the reviewer that didn't know why this wasn't on the best of 2006. This thing smokes the likes of the new Dylan, Neko Case, Decembrists. Not even the same planet. Very Epic, lots of wisdom. Very cool, very sad, and absolutely hilarious. One of Tom's best and thats saying alot. 56 songs with a high percentage of keepers. SOme of the stuff on side 3 is really funny. Side 1 rocks and side 2 is sad and beautiful. I wouldn't be surprised if one day the is considered one of the greatest recordings ever. Tom Waits, I know, is not for everyone. In this CD collection, he displays his unique talents in unbelievable ways. Each CD has its own theme (Brawlers,Ballers, and Bastards) and he is true to each theme. When you think that Tom cannot get any better, he does. I have been listening to Tom Waits for more than 25 years. He has evolved and remained true to himself. If you have never seen this awesome muscian in concert you must. No matter what the venue, he projects an intimacy that few are able to replicate. I remember him from the clubs, seen him in huge forums, he is true to himself, his music and to those to whom he speacks to in his music.Free Music Review: Is this from this world?

Tom Waits is probably the only Angel on this world who has seen the devil in the eyes. His Music is truely not from this world, not comparable to anything you have heard before, you just love to drawn in his cosmos and never face the bitter reality again. Nobody describes better the devistating nature of true love, the pain of saying good bye and the joy of sadness.
In my opinion, this is his best album because you have never been closer to what really touches the soul of this great musician.
I am deeply moved, astonished, inspired and thankful for his music and this album and I guarantee you to feel the same.
