Free Music Notes for The MysteryFree Music Review: A wonderful player, writer, and entertainer. Hit: 5 StarsTommy Emmanuel is an amazing musician. His extraordinary technique could potentially overshadow his incredible writing and arranging skills, but with The Mystery, they all fuse into a glorious panorama of sound. The title track is beautiful, and his Grammy winning Gameshow Rag/Cannon Ball Rag is a mind bending cacophony of blazing walking bass lines over chorded and arpeggiated melodies. Lewis and Clark is a song Tommy describes in his live performances as having been inspired by his readings of the journals of the explorers. As you hear a light tapping on the body of the guitar throughout, you can imagine yourself following Sacagawea through the wilderness. Antonella's Birthday displays his excellent ability to make harmonics a key element of a song. And So it Goes is an interpretation of Billy Joel's beautiful lament. Tommy showcases the song and it's easy to imagine him as an enthusiastic listener while he's the player. Were a guitar able to speak, I'd expect to hear "That's what I'm talking about!" when wrapped in the arms of Tommy Emmanuel. The man has an incredible gift, and I believe he's thankful for that every day of his life.
Free Music Review: Guitar Virtuosity Hit: 5 StarsI heard an interview with Tommy Emmanuel on NPR, along with a few excerpts from the Album. Tommy's music has a flow and energy that captivates the listener. Light and intricate, or gentle and moving. Easy to listen to, it stays in your mind. His skill is amazing, as is the fact that he doesn't read music. Great album.
Free Music Review: The Mystery Hit: 5 StarsTommy Emmanuel is the worlds greatest guitar player, it is amazing he can write these beautiful songs too. A very enjoyable purchase !
Free Music Review: Another Collectible Hit: 5 StarsIf you're a guitar player, you'll immediately be captivated by Tommy Emmanuel's music. After listening a few times, discovery of his depth and virtuosity occurs, and one becomes an involuntary student.
That happened after my acquiring his 2005 album, "Endless Road." Tommy's music in that compilation not only entertained but more important (to me, at least) communicated.
"Mystery" (released 2006), although I've not listened to it as often as I have "Endless Road," promises to be of similar stature.
These two albums are must-haves in my opinion; in them Tommy's musical personality is in the open, unmasked by the overlay of other instruments (as in the case of his 1997 "Midnight Drive"). I watched his Atlanta concert in early 2007, and Tommy the man appeared as authentically good as his music.
Free Music Review: Finger Lickin' Good! Hit: 5 StarsWhat a player! This is a must have for any guitar fan! It's hard to believe all of this is done by finger picking. Chet Atkins found a gold mine in Tommy Emmanuel! This guy can flat play! He is so good that I don't care for the songs that have vocals. All I want to hear is his guitar! This is the first CD of his that I have bought, and I will be buying the rest of his arsenal. I was totally impressed and I'm more of an electric guitar fan. But, I apprciate any talented virtuoso styles. If you like guitar music, then check this guy out!
