this is a cd that produces more than it delivers..this cd has as much to do with the memphis sound then the nitty ditty dirt band did,you can call a cd talk memphis which was a stone cold southern fried country tune, but you you need to deliver the mail. except for a couple of blue eyed soul ziggers this one fails to deliver anything close to the memphis,muscle shoals style that we been missing for way to mny yearsFree Music Review: Pure Cane Sugar in Every Kiss

Toni Price's latest disc rocks roundly with a groove that churns like the best Stax release. The title track is from Jesse Winchester's 1981 Bearsville LP Talk Memphis that Chris Smither also recorded on his CD Up on the Lowdown. Toni's version ignites with a punchy rhythm section and David Grissom's searing electric lead guitar, "Where were you when Elvis died? A lot of folks sat & cried. Well, I don't mind telling you that I did a little crying too." Toni has recorded about 15 Gwil Owen penned songs including "Something," a favorite of mine from her Hey CD. She records 4 tracks on this set including "What I'm Putting Down" written with Richard Ferreira that blazes, "I know what I like & I like what I see." Allen Toussaint's "Mean Man" boils with a soul groove and a tasty horn chart, "When I feel I'm falling down he just tries to come around, Acts as if he doesn't know I'm in love, he hurts me so." "Am I Groovin' U" written by Jeff Barry simmers like a midtempo soul stew, "And when you need me & you call my name in the lonely night, Do you feel it? Do you really believe everything's going to be all right?" Isaac Hayes & David Porter wrote "Leftover Love" from which Toni milks every ounce of emotion. Toni records the title track from Wendy Colonna's Right Where I Belong CD and polishes the excellent tune, "Hungry for more, I better stop & recognize my appetite ain't right, Everything that I need or I could dream is inside me or in my sight." Oliver Sain who recorded from the 1960s to the 1980s and was a good friend of Ike Turner wrote "Poor Little Fool," a slow song that Toni wraps herself around with some tasty piano by Marcia Ball. The Ashford/Simpson penned "Runnin' Out" bounces with edgy speed. Booker T. Jones' "Sorry About That" has a wry humor of turned tables in a romantic game, "I gave you kissin' I gave you huggin' I gave you lots & lots of real good lovin'." "Twenty-five pounds of pure cane sugar in each & every kiss; You wouldn't know what I'm talkin' about if you never had lovin' like this," Toni sings on the rock n' soul "99 Pounds." "Talk Memphis" is an excellent new set from one of the Lone Star State's best. Enjoy!
