Free Music Review: Make way for the Lemon Parade...
Hit: 4 Stars

Tonic's debut album hit at around the same time as fellow earnest white-boy rockers like Dog's Eye View and the Verve Pipe, but they prove that they've got their own niche to fill in the vast wasteland of soundalike "modern rock."

The production, by Jack Joseph Puig, is stellar - crisp and clean, but with enough edge to keep you listening intently. And that you will do, from the opening "tuning an orchestra" guitar crescendo of "Open Up Your Eyes" onward. Tonic wears their classic rock influences on their sleeve: there are some big-time nods to Led Zeppelin on this record, most tellingly in singer/songwriter Emerson Hart's baldly Robert Plant-inflected vocals on "Thick." Other heavy rockers include the soft-to-hard acoustic-electric interplay on "Mountain," and the Emerald Isle solidarity anthem "Celtic Aggression."

"Celtic Aggression" also highlights another important part of this band. They're Irish (or at least some of them are of Irish descent), and nowhere does it show up clearer than on their mournful, almost poetic ballads, especially the tale of love lost which becomes a sea chantey, "Mr. Golden Deal." The title track delves into Americana in it's folk-inflected melody. And yes, the single you've all heard a million times over, "If You Could Only See," is definitely another highlight.

Melodic, hard-hitting, and solid all over - quality songwriting, excellent production, and great musicianship. It's a shame these guys will most likely be considered a one hit wonder, because this disc definitely has a lot to recommend it.

Free Music Review: If you could only hear...
Hit: 4 Stars

The song "If You Could Only See" was haunting me for months, never heard who the artist was any time I heard it on the radio. I found it by searching the lyric on amazon, and Tonic came up in the results. A soundbite gave me the confirmation I needed, and I purchased a great used copy from one of amazons marketplace sellers. The rest of the CD is pretty good, but obviously, you know what my favorite song is! For the price I paid, even if that WAS the only good cut, I still got my moneys worth!

Free Music Review: HOW CAN U ACTUALLY LIKE THIS?
Hit: 1 Stars

Okay, I know this is going to get a lot of votes saying this review did not help me. But straight out, this CD stinks. I mean when I heard If You Could Only See on the radio, I was like "Wow! This CD has to be good. Also all these people are giving it five stars." Well the rest of the songs are not like that one hit. Its totally different. The reason why I got this CD was because of their new hit "You wanted more" on the American Pie Soundtrack? SO I thought this album was gonna be tyte. But the first 3 songs are the only catchy songs. The others are just boring and seem to have no catchy hooks. Or they are upbeat, incontrolled, songs that sound like "BLAH". So if you liked "You Wanted More" or "If You Could Only See" think twice before you get this album or get their latest one because it looks A LOT MORE improved.

Free Music Review: Tonic here to stay
Hit: 5 Stars

"Open Up Your Eyes", the first cut and first release got my attention. "If You Could Only See" made me buy the CD. What an incredible CD. This is best guitar work I've heard in a long time. Rhythmic chording to burn. Every song delivers a strong hook. The title track is my least favorite, and it is still a strong tune. The weeping "Soldier's Daughter" is worth the price of admission. And then there is "Thick" and "Mr. Golden Deal". I bought this masterpiece over 2 years ago and it still finds its way into my CD player at least twice a month. This is one that I would bring to a desert island if I could only bring 5 CD's.

Free Music Review: An artistic album with some great material.
Hit: 5 Stars

I really enjoyed this CD. One of my students once wanted to do a solo to If You Could Only See, so I spent the money and got the album so I could choreograph to it. I was totally blown away by the talent this group shows. The songs are all top notch, and I can really listen to the whole album through. Listeners to adult contemporary radio have probably heard If You Could Only See and Lemon Parade before, as they were both played a lot, especially If You Could Only See. But there are some other great tracks on here. Wicked Soldier and Casual Affair rock harder than the radio choices, and they really show their song writing abilities on My Old Man and Soldier's Daughter, which have great meanings and lyrics. If you are looking for some fresh music that isn't sugar pop, but isn't super heavy rock either, then this is the album for you. I still listen to this one, and I bought it a long time ago. Definately give it a shot. It's totally worth it.
