Free Music Notes for Lemon ParadeFree Music Review: Tonic's best is still their 1st album... Lemon Parade Hit: 5 StarsTHE BAND: Emerson Hart (vocals, rhythm guitar), Jeff Russo (lead & rhythm guitar), Dan Rothchild (bass), Kevin Shepard (drums & percussion).
THE DISC: (1996) 12 songs clocking in at approximately 51 minutes. The disc contains a 6-page foldout with song credits and lyrics, band pictures, assorted artwork, and thank you's. All lyrics written by Emerson Hart. Label - A&M Records/Polygram.
COMMENTS: Awesome debut. Perhaps my favorite rock album from 1996. Why Tonic didn't really hit the big time is beyond me. They've had a few scattered hits - their first was "Open Up Your Eyes", followed by their biggest hit to date "If You Could Only See". The deeper album cuts here are perhaps the best songs... "Soldier's Daughter", "Lemon Parade", "Casual Affair" and "Mountain". No filler - I enjoy all the songs and can listen to the entire disc without using the skip button. Through 2005, Tonic has released 2 addition albums, but none have matched the song writing of "Lemon Parade". Crisp sound production. Great disc.
Free Music Review: Tonic is a great band! Hit: 5 StarsThis album is pure genius. But, they've matured even more and sound even better (as if they could) on the album, 'Sugar'. Check it out if you're a fan and even if you're not! 'Sugar' is an absolutely brilliant, jaw-dropping album.
Free Music Review: Why I feel this way. Hit: 2 StarsI sit & listen to this album & wonder why I ever bought it & why I never pawned it in one of my many attempts to scrounge up drinkin' money. I really only bothered to listen to a few songs on the album but, those were enough to make me want to hold on to it. Track one, three & four are my fav's. My point, if you could call it a point, is that IF YOU COULD ONLY SEE & OPEN UP YOUR EYES are trance inducing songs. The words & the lingering guitar drag me in every time I listen. I start to daydream about where I was when I 1st heard Tonic. The funny part is the daydreams are never the same but they are always just as real & just as warm.
Free Music Review: Great CD. Hit: 4 StarsI thought I'd never like alternative-country rock until I heard Tonic. No, it's not good old country, it rocks! This Cd has good songs and it's also soothing when you get in that mood. "If You Could Only See" is a beautiful song.
Free Music Review: Damn. Hit: 4 StarsThis is an excellent album. Overall it isn't terribly exciting, but it is very nice to sit down and listen to this relatively mellow compilation. Nothing on the CD is very bad, but "Mountain" and "Mr. Golden Deal" are each a bit of a low point. The better tracks balance this out, and some outstanding tracks like "Casual Affair", "Soldier's Daughter", and "Bigot Sunshine" are true keepers. This is a CD for people looking for some great alternative rock with a soothing melody and without the metallic edge that everything seems to have now. Anybody can at least listen to this album and like it at some point, from brain-dead teeny boppers to hardcore death metal fans. That's a true accomplishment.
