I don't know about anyone else, but the joy and sorrow of Tom Jobim's music is perfectly evident here, as is the idea of artfully re-interpreting the original songs. I'd rather listen to this album than any of the tired, unoriginal redos of Jobim's material through the years. Or the versions that are out now with 'house beats' added. Horta's not interested in being a guitar hero, or parroting the original takes - most of the arrangements on this album have have a grace and style all their own, and if nothing else, he deserves to be praised for continuing Jobim's legacy.
