Free Music Review: Brilliant 'forgotten' early 70s jazz/rock album

I discovered this album while I was on holiday in France this summer - in a clothes shop I heard some intriguing music being played across the shop music system. I asked the assistant who the band was and was told Tonton Macoute. Once home I searched the internet and discovered this band only ever made one album (this one!)
It is mostly instrumental with just a few vocal tracks - made in 1971 it has 'Beatle'-type harmonies (circa 1967), Jethro Tull jazz/blues feel and King Crimson influences but the band still put their own individual stamp on it. The musicianship is very high for the time - in fact a lot higher than some of their more successful contemporaries. Of particular note are the basslines of Chris Gavin and the Sax and Flute work of Dave Knowles - both superb!
This album is a joy to listen to - full of enthusiasm and fun. Get it while it is still available - you won't regret it!
Apparently the band had recorded 4 new tracks for a second album before there record company bust and they split as a band - what a great loss for lovers of good music!
