Free Music Notes for Duets: An American Classic

Free Music Review: classic -ingore the haters and enjoy old tony while you can!
Hit: 5 Stars

Do yourself a favor and ignore the negativity of some of the reviewers here as they are either pointing out that Tony is too old, too rich, or falling into a duets trap to save his voice.
NONSENSE!
Tony Bennet is the American Classic in question. At the ripe age of 80, he still sings like a much younger man. He picks some interesting folks for the brilliant songs on this albums and each of them adds something interesting to the mix.
I agree with what Sinatra said in 1965 more now than ever. ""For my money, Tony Bennett is the best singer in the business. He excites me when I watch him. He moves me. He's the singer who gets across what the composer has in mind, and probably a little more."
There is no question that regardless of his age or how much he is getting paid, he is still a true master of song.
His voice is magic, his ability to convey a song is brilliant, and his artistry hasn't faded one bit.
Light some candles, snuggle up with a loved one, and watch the snow fall. Pure romance.
If you've never heard Tony, buy this album. If you are a huge fan of Tony, buy this album. If you need to remember what is beautiful in this world, but this album.

Free Music Review: Merely Magic!
Hit: 5 Stars

Tony Bennett, they tell me, is 80 years old. Impossible. His newest CD titled Duets is Tony accompanied by some of the younger singers of the day. Streisand, McCartney, Joel and the Dixie Chicks. There are more but I'm writing this from memory and running late for an appointment but I had to say something about this wonderful, joyous CD.

Mr. Bennett can do no wrong and he proves once again that he is a singer's singer. The voice is strong when it should be but ever so tender when the moment comes and his sharing the stage with the younger singers is done to perfection.

Perhaps I've used the word perfecton too much but this CD is a joy from start to fininsh and he closes, alone, with "I Left My Heart in San Francisco". It sounds like he's singing it for the first time.

I am 63 years old and I still remember the first time I heard that song and listening to it many years later brings me back to a much happier time. And Mr. Bennett will always be in my heart and, I believe, in the hearts of most music lovers of popular music. He continues to weave a magic spell over us all.

Free Music Review: Inimitable Duets and Incomparable Voice
Hit: 5 Stars

This is an impressive collection of duets equally impressive as Tony Bennett's enduring and endearing voice. This recording is first rate with impressive orchestral arrangements and exquisite instrumental backups that truly enhance the overall performances. Some of these duets are truly amazing and quite surprising. THE VERY THOUGHT OF YOU duet with Paul McCartney is incredible and comes right out of nowhere and enthralls you. The expected "standard school" SMILE duet with Barbra Streisand does not fail in its delivery and endearing performance here. Surprises such as LULLABY OF BROADWAY duet with Dixie Chicks and the COLD, COLD HEART duet with Tim McGraw come off natural and without a glitch. THE BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS duet with Sting is moving to say the least and one of the best included here. We can't forget Bono and the I WANNA BE AROUND duet with him is especially poignant. This CD album ranks up with one of Tony Bennett's best. His voice may sound older and wiser but his delivery remains strong as ever.

Free Music Review: A series of memories
Hit: 5 Stars

For the average listener, this may not be a key piece to have in the library. However, I grew up with my parents dancing in the living room to Tony Bennett songs (they are celebrating their 56th anniversary this year)...I've spent time watching Tony on Johnny Carson, and snagging tickets to see him live. How can his voice and classic songs not warm your heart?
I was one of the privelged few to see him live at an intimate Vancouver fundraiser with Elvis (MY FAVE!!) Elton John, and Diana Krall in a night that was spectacular and unforgettable, and this album brings those memories back tenfold. The duet with Billy Joel is interesting-Billy has a bit of a Frank Sinatra to his voice. The Stevie Wonder collaboration was recorded very clearly to catch the nuances of Stevie's voice. James Taylor's voice will always bring a smile to my face. But again, Elvis collaborating with a legacy like Tony is just fine with me-

Free Music Review: One the most celebrated albums of the year
Hit: 5 Stars

According the recent tradition of making musical duets (remind the cases of Frank Sinatara or Andrea Bocelli), Tony Bennett could not be the exception. Tony has received many praises along his life but I just still remind that famous statement of Frank Sinatra when qualified as the most notable jazz singer of the Century. So taking into account this consideration, and the additional fact a set of the most renowned singers and artists of the pop music at this moment have decided to make a glorious tribute and warm homage to that American icon , the event could not be more successful.

This album since its immediate release has become a status recording, and I guess through the years it's value will be enhancing exponentially. So, far beyond your musical tastes, we are talking about a true giant

A timeless gift to friends, hard to die lover's music, audiophiles and lovers.
