Free Music Review: I love the music of Tony Bennett
Hit: 5 Stars

I love the music of Tony Bennett on this CD. I love the romantic tracks The Very Thought Of You with Paul McCartney. The Shadow of Your Smile is beautifully subtle and romantic. Smile is a pretty duet with a hint of sadness to it. Billy Joel sounds so wise and reflective on the track The Good Life. It is good to hear Billy sing again. I love the duet How Do You Keep The Music Playing. The duet with George Michael has a sad but lovely quality to it. This CD also contains fun upbeat songs like Lullaby On Broadway and Are You Having Any Fun. I love the big band sound on these tracks For Once In My Life is touching duet with Stevie Wonder. The piano playing by Lee Muskier is so good here. The Best Is Yet To Come is a jazzy duet with Diana Krall. Tony's signature hit song I Left My Heart In San Franciso is always smooth and enjoyable. This is an excellent duet CD filled with classic songs.

Tony Bennett's duets album is a crowning achievement to a truly spectacular career. It's hard to pick a best song because they all work, but Bennett and George Michael are incredible on the last track of the album, "How Do You Keep The Music Playing?" There is also an extended version of the CD distributed by Target with four bonus tracks and a DVD. I suggest purchasing both versions plus everything else Tony has recorded throughout his long and illustrious career. He truly is the last of the classic vocalists that began with Crosby, reached its glorious peak with Sinatra and sadly ends when Tony's amazing career finally ends. I only wish that Tony could have included a song with Barry Manilow, but perhaps we will see that in "Duets: An American Classic Two." One can only hope that Tony keeps performing and recording the classic standards that truly exemplify what great music is all about.

Free Music Review: Still amazing after all these years...

Through all of the negative reviews, I was pretty shocked. However, I ran across the duet with Stevie Wonder, and I did not see an aging star trying to make one last grasp at his/her former heyday.. I saw an older musician, teamed up with a less older musician (Stevie), and I thought it was pretty inspiring. As I listened, I saw two great vocal stars admiring each other's talent.. I did not once think of any payday, or an older man trying to relive his youth. I saw what we have so much little of today. Actual talent... And just like when I was younger, when I saw these stars sing, I got caught up in the moment, as if I could feel what they were singing about.. which is magical? I don't know, I just know I enjoyed it.. Layoff the older guys everyone, they knew how to truly 'put it down'... Steve is my fav, but I've got to listen to more Tony Bennett...

Free Music Review: Tony Bennett...Still Wonderful & Pitch Perfect
Hit: 5 Stars

This album was beautifully done!!! First of all you have many powerful names in music; Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Stevie Wonder, James Taylor. Every single song was impeccable, and Tony still sounds perfect and terrifically aged in these arrangements. At first I was doubtful of the Dixie Chicks, and Diana Krall, but when you listen carefully the talent of both Tony and his guest work so well together. This is by far one of the greatest albums of the year and will do very well in sales. Also features his haunting signature song,"I Left My Heart In San Francisco" Even if you aren't a huge fan of Tony Bennett, buy this album because it is one that will be forever timeless in music history!!! Also buy the accompanying DVD which features some of the songs on the album, and that is a delightful treat!!!Happy listening!!

PBS ran the tape of the making of Duets and gave me a whole new perspective on the CD. I now can visualize each song as I listen, and it has enhanced my enjoyment of the best tracks while making ones I thought were not as good much more in line with the Bennett tradition of "telling the story" of each song. He gets inside the music and lives there with such ease.

There is nobody who can blend with Bennett's voice better than k.d. lang - except Diana Krull, James Taylor, Tim McGraw or, well, most of the other people chosen to sing with him.

This record is joyful and not enhanced, as one reviewer suggested. Hearing/seeing how Bennett works with lyrics and other performers still amazes me. I've been a fan since his first recording - there was nothing like a Bennett song for setting the mood.
