Free Music Notes for The Train I'm OnFree Music Review: TJW's best album Hit: 5 StarsThe Train I'm On is that truly rare animal; a PERFECT album. I think if you put 100 TJW fans in a room and had each one pick their favorite song from this album each of the twelve songs would be mentioned at least once.
There's a great deal of stylistic variety at work in the songs, but the quality is always there. There are more acoustic guitars than electric and there's not a note out of place in any of the playing or the deft arrangements.
The Train I'm On is a stone classic. I cannot recommend this album highly enough.
Free Music Review: Maybe his best work Hit: 5 StarsI ve been listening to Tony Joe White for years. Nothing he does in less than great. But I think if I had to throw all my TJW albums out but one, this is the one I would keep. Every song on this CD is excellent.
Free Music Review: An alternative Elvis Hit: 5 StarsTony Joe White sings (and looks) like Elvis's younger surly brother on this album. I was expecting it to be good, but I was surprised at how great it is. If you like the swamp affectations of Creedence and Little Feat, then you'll love the real thing. I was a little wary of a song with a title like "Even Trolls Love Rock 'n' Roll," but it's a hilarious story with really great playing. Highly recommended.
Free Music Review: Tony Joe IS Swamp Rock music! Hit: 4 StarsThis is one of Tony Joe's better albums. From the slow soulful title cut to the rocker Even Trolls Love Rock & Roll (one of TJWs best IMO). My personal favorite is The Gospel Singer. His big hits from this one are I've Got a Thing About You Baby and If I Ever Saw a Good Thing. If you are going to buy some TJW music, my recommendations are this album and One Hot July which I consider to be his alltime best.
