I have been a Tool fan for a long time, and I must say this album is by far one of the worst albums I have ever purchased. There is not ONE song I could get into. Maynard's singing and lyrics are absolutely HORRIBLE! I could not believe the rest of the band could possibly allow this to happen. The bass is simply bad and at times sickening. On one track I nearly puked from seasickness! The guitar does not make enough appearances and is not energetic by any standards. My boyfriend, being Native American, was offended by the chanting track. Not because it was chanting, but because they had to make a mockery of it. The drums are the best thing going for this album besides the Alex Grey artwork.
If you are searching for the inspiration Tool has provided in the past, you will definitely NOT find it here! If you are new to this band, DO NOT start with this album. If you are a die-hard Tool fan, please show your support by NOT BUYING THIS PIECE OF CRAP!
I must say I was very excited to get this album at first. I even went to a release party and stood in line for no less than 2 hours to get one of the first copies. I am warning you, if you love Tool, do not even listen to it, it will make you want to cry.
Tool was the last hope for good music this generation, and they blew it. I feel very ashamed to have to say this, but like every other HAS BEEN, I liked the earlier stuff better.
