Free Music Notes for OpiateFree Music Review: incredible CD, i still love it Hit: 5 Stars
i first bought this CD about two or three years ago, and i've never been bored with it. Every single song is amazing with great lyrics and spectacular guitar and bass riffs. Not to mention that Danny Carey is one of the best drummers i've heard in a long time. the only drummer even close to him would be Lars Ulrich of Metallica. Below is a small review of each song.1-Sweat: my second favorite track here, the chorus is incredible. 5/5. 2-Hush: an interesting vocal topic and a really cool riff. the bridge is also really good. 4/5. 3-Part Of Me: a great song accompanied by great drumming and bass work. 5/5. 4-Cold & Ugly: the best TOOL song written. simply incredible. 10/5. 5-Jerk-Off: another awesome song, the ending's the best part. 5/5. 6-Opiate: this is the "famous" song about how could people blindly follow their religion without questioning it. great song with exceptional lyrics. 5/5. Overall, this is an awesome effort by Tool, who is by far one of my favorite bands (them, along with Incubus, Metallica and KoRn) out there.
Free Music Review: an amazing debut! Hit: 5 Stars
Tool's debut album is a brute force of songs which introduces Tool's style to the world. Although this is not a full length album and not as complex as their future releases, this is still a compelling album. Maynard James Keenan talks about a variety of subjects such as censorship on the song "Hush", moral hypocricy on the song "Jerk-off", and religious hypocricy on the song "Opiate". Once you hear that song, you know that Maynard is not too fond of religion. Adam Jones is also introduced to the world with his amazing guitar playing. This album was a hit in the alternative music scene when they went touring with Lollapalooza in 1992. There is also an hidden track after "Opiate" called "The Gaping Lotus Experience" which sounds like a acid rock song to me. This was not the first Tool album I bought, but the last one. I got this around the same time I bought "Lateralus". This album is worth buying, but I would go with one of their later albums first because they are more compelling and more mysterious than this release. This album definately deserves 5 stars!
Free Music Review: The Roots of Tool Hit: 5 Stars
Tool is a band that with each release takes not only time, but also effort to create something awesome. Although Opiate is just an EP with only 6 songs for its listeners, it still manages to satisfy. Whether you're a die-hard fan or just a metalhead it has much to offer so early in their career. This is what helped gain Tool's early fan base before losing a few as well as gaining many more fans during the release of Ænima and Lateralus. For me though, I love every release they have done. I have so much respect for each album and I think that they are all perfect in their own ways. I have taken the liberty of rating the songs below.
1. Sweat - 10/10
2. Hush - 10/10
3. Part Of Me - 9/10
4. Cold And Ugly (Live) - 9.5/10
5. Jerk-off (Live) - 9/10
6. Opiate - 10/10
Overall: 95% A-
If you don't have this album yet or are new to the band and already like their newer stuff I would recommend purchasing this. That is if you desire to hear the roots of the band known as Tool.
Free Music Review: Opiate is an incredible album Hit: 5 Stars
Opiate remains one of my favorite albums of all time (my 2nd favorite Tool album behind Ænema). The song "Hush" is meaningful and very funny, and it's also filled with needless and profuse profanity! The two live songs "Cold And Ugly" and "Jerk-Off" are both amazing, and sound almost as if they recorded them in the studio. While Ænema was highly philosophical and mind-expanding, Opiate seems to concentrate on a more religious theme. "Opiate" deals with people who blindly believe in their religion and use it as a crutch. The hidden track "The Gaping Lotus Experience" is a rather funny track about an experience with drugs. I'm not saying that this album isn't as good as Ænema or even Undertow, it just relies on your personal taste. I recommend all three Tool albums, and I recommend that you get Ænema first. Or just buy all three at once. But Opiate is not to be missed. This seven track EP is one of the best rock albums ever recorded.
Free Music Review: Great TOOL album...Must have for any TOOL fan!!!!! Hit: 5 Stars
This one will literally blow you away. This album is by far Tool's heaviest and it gives you a chance to hear their metal side a little more. The record starts of with "Sweat" a heavy song with a powerful driving melody that sets the stage for another good Tool release. SONG BY SONG REVIEWS>>>>>>
Sweat -10/10- Danny Carey's drumming in this one is nothing short of fantastic.
Hush -9/10- Not the best song on the album but a good one at that.
Part of Me -10/10- My favorite song on this one. Has a real nice metal edge to it that only Tool can create.
Cold and Ugly -10/10- Great live performance!!!
Jerk-Off -10/10- Nice Title!! Most aggressive on here, with Maynard screaming at the end and Adam's guitar wailing nothing can compare to the live energy.
Opiate -9/10- Unbelievable riffs to go with a great ending jam.
A Tool fan's must have especially if you want to see this band's early stuff.
