Free Music Review: Basically, TOOL is aiming at holding fans off.

And it should work. What "Salival" lacks in original content, it makes up for in novelty. Many fans will be disappointed in the absence of any new material from the band, but the addition of 4 of the band's 5 (where's "Sweat"?) highly original videos are included in the DVD, which most fans will savor, me included. The b-sides from "Aenima" are mere collectors' items; they won't interest anyone but the most avid TOOL fan. Other than the videos and detailed booklet, the real meat of this box set are the live recordings, and especially the previously unreleased studio cover of Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter." It's difficult to shake the inkling that the release of "Salival" is in some way a subliminal apology from the band for the many years it's kept its fans screaming for a new record. That matters little, however. Most everyone will be thrilled at the concept of simply holding a NEW TOOL RELEASE in their hands... and that's really all that matters.
