Free Music Notes for UndertowFree Music Review: Good album Hit: 5 Stars
I am a die hard for life Tool fan. Anyone who doesn't like them needs to go f*ck themselves because they obviously do not understand what real and unique music is about. Any band can make music. BUT NOT MANY BANDS HAVE MEANING IN THEIR EXISTENCE. To this day, I have yet to hear such music by any other band like these guys have made. Maynard has the perfect voice for this music and I love his passion in his singing. He takes you into his world and makes you feel what he is saying. The best thing about Tool is Maynard's lyrics. They are for your interpretation. he never fully explains the meaning of his songs or what he is truly talking about. The mystery in his lyrics intrigues me because it's as if he wrote them in a way that you could interpret them into your life and make your own meaning out of them. Tool is a great band. I personally like their latest albums because their music is more advanced and sounds more loud and powerful. But one thing was true then and is still true....there is no on like Tool. I doubt that there is someone in this world with the views, conflict, opinion, and emotion like that of Maynard. I doubt there is a band with a bassist who can play like the song belongs to him instead of following what the guitar does, a guitarist who plays like he is psychotic, and a drummer who plays like he has 6 arms. You don't have to be a big Tool fan. But if you don't appreciate them, then what do you appreciate? Because these guys are different and they don't sound like anyone else. And to me that's what defines a band.
Free Music Review: if I could, I'd give it 6 stars... Hit: 5 Stars
man, I cannot say enough good things about this album. I would have to say this this album is definitely, without a doubt, THE best heavy rock album of the 90's. hands down. this is one of those albums that I can listen to a million times (and believe me, I have) and STILL not get tired of it. and with this album, every aspect of it is incredible. Maynard's vocals gives me goosebumps. haunting and amazingly angry and emotional. and unlike all those other pathetic "vocalists" out there who don't even come close (Staind, Godsmack, etc...), Maynard can actually SING. and his lyrics are so good, I wish they were my own. Adam's guitar leaves me speechless. as a guitarist, I would kill for his tone. crushingly heavy, yet extremely raw and primative. and his playing has a metal feel with some truly creative, beautiful, and unique touches. Paul's bass playing is to me, one of the focal points of this album. THIS is what bass playing should sound like. note to all aspiring bassists out there: this is the tone that you want. thick and sludgy, yet crisp and solid. and last but not least, Danny's drumming is some pretty massive stuff. crushing bombast played with stunning talent. definitely one of the best rock drummers of the 90's, and 00's... all this, topped off with some really great production, and insane artwork, make this a f*cking brilliant album. I have over 1000 CD's in my music collection, and I would have to say without hesitation that Undertow is definitely in my top 10 favorite albums of all time.
Free Music Review: Amazing at the basics, setting a standard Hit: 5 Stars
Tool's "Undertow" is something that I believe any rock lover can appreciate. The combination of true professional work on all levels of music is something that is hard to ignore, and you can see by Tool's enormous and almost cult-like fan base that these skills are not overlooked.Tool's "Undertow" set the standard in pop culture with the single "Sober" that drives slow and steady from start to finish; it is a masterpiece representing hard rock of the early nineties. The rest of the album is quite similar. Each song features the bass-driven group delving into topics that are, for the most part, very deeply rooted in society. Controversial attitudes towards topics such as religion put this group among one of the most intelligent sounding groups of all time. But it is not these attitudes that make Tool a great rock band; it is instead the way that the group writes music to go with these eerie lyrics. Metaphorical (and sometimes spooky) lyrics with echo effects and clever rhymes are backed up by just as odd distortion methods on the guitar and very heavy bass lines. All in all, it is a sound that can hit you in your head intellectually and then send a chill down your spine. Finally, if you are unfamiliar with Tool then you are missing out on one of the founders of the current hard-rock wave. Start with "Undertow" to explore the history of the genre and see that even today this album is one of the most easily appreciated albums.
Free Music Review: Can't We All Just Be Sober? Hit: 5 Stars
How To Make The 1990s' Most Influencial Metal Record On A Working Man's Budget..... "Keep your multi-million dollar contract signing bonus, we want complete artistic control." How do you become Heavy Metal's most important group since "Black Sabbath"? You can't be jaded by commercial jerky boys. When they told their label they could keep their signing check in trade for artistic freedom, it released the demon that is called "Tool". The stripped-down-to-the-bone, flesh burning phenomenon is one of the most critically acclaimed recording artists to be born since Nirvana. Though they were born almost back to back, it took all of the old school dinosaurs nearly ten years to realize what underground Metalhead kids had known since Headbanger's Ball was cancelled. The value contained in this Sophmore effort by Tool is a reflection of "Opiate" their first EP. It's not another heavy metal record. This is the begining of a legacy. In much of the same way that Pink Floyd accuired non-commercial success, Tool has paved their own road to hell and back to bring us music that is more intelligent than AC/DC and means more to the next generation than a California Girl means to David Lee Roth. "Undertow" is not a headbanger's record. It is built on a foundation of musicians who all command their instruments in a musically intelligent way. Looking for buzz-saw "Pantera" type malarky? Look elsewhere....this is music.
Free Music Review: Another Tool masterpiece just short of Aenima Hit: 5 Stars
Another one of Tool's masterpieces!!!! (Though i think Aenima is the ultimate album). The songs on this album make up many of Tool's classic song list. There are many unforgettable and haunting songs on this album, Prison Sex and Sober, being the most well known. But songs like 4*, Flood, Swamp Song, Undertow, and others get overlooked as far as being Tool classics. This CD like all Tool albums takes the listener on a journey. Maynard's lyrics on Undertow are thought provoking and some of the best song writing I have ever seen. The album's songs seem to be shorter in length though compared to Aenima and Lateralus, which is why many people like this Tool album the best. This album, like Opiate displays Tool's heavier side, also, which is another reason headbangers like this Tool disc a little better. I love the album from the opening song, Intolerance to the haunting Prison Sex and Sober to Bottom, Crawl Away, Swamp Song, Undertow, 4*, Flood, and all the way to Disgustipated (the cries of the carrots).....All of these songs are works of art that are amazingly put together into one single masterpiece. For the harder rock fan this Tool disc will be your favorite. In Aenima Tool matures into a better band even, and then mature even more in Lateralus. This CD starts off the Tool's maturing process that is still going on, and it shows that even Tool in their early stage can make songs that will be remembered forever by any rock or Tool fan. Get this album.
