Free Music Notes for UndertowFree Music Review: Greatest band ever Hit: 5 Stars
This CD is not as good as Aenima, but nothing is. Undertow is heavier but Aenima has so much more creativity in it, not like Undertow doesn't. If you don't have a TOOL album yet you should definately get this one, but get Aenima first. On both albums every single song is great. Undertows best songs in my opinion are Flood, Intolerance, Bottom, and Undertow. Most people like Prison Sex and Sober the most, I like those songs alot its just when I listen to this album I listen to it for heavy songs but I do like Sober and Prison Sex. Heres a review of the Songs: 1. Intolerance- Heavy song, great guitar riffs and strong vocals, something to headbang to. 10/10 2. Prison Sex- softer, but has great guitar, bass, drums(like always)and a good melody. 10/10 3. Sober- Another soft song(sort of)but is still really good. 10/10 4. Bottom- Has a killer guitar riff after the second chorus, this song goes on for around 6-7 minutes all heavy except for one part in the middle. 10/10 5. Crawl Away- 10/10 6. Swamp song- 8/10------Still a great song-better than almost anything else out there 7. Undertow- 11/10 8. 4 degrees- 9/10 9. Flood- great opening and ending 11/10 10. Disgustipated- great way to end a TOOL CD. 10/10 BUY THIS AND AENIMA(note; New album in May- going to be great)
Free Music Review: "You lie, cheat and steal...." Hit: 5 Stars
The first time I ever heard of these guys, I heard the song "Sober" from my friends car, he was listening to there CD. So I asked him if I can borrow it cause these guys seemed pretty talented. after listening to the first few tracks I IMMEDIATLEY ran to the computer and just burned this to another CD....Undertow is with out a doublt one of the best rock album I've ever heard in my life.. The music is just Top Notch and The vocalists lyrics are phenomenal(those lyrics to Prison sex really did disturb me though). This is my first Tool CD and I simply love it and plan on getting there other CD's in the near future but for now I'll still be listening to this classic..
Some songs really made me think though, especially tracks 1 through 4 which are the best racks on the album... Tool is an extreamly talented group that needs more credit to there music but sadly they'll never have that cause we have poser Bands on MTV shining all there light, but who needs them, TOOL RULES!!!!!
If you're looking for an extreamly well made Rock album, with some strong and a bit disturbing lyrics UNDERTOOL is for you, Tool is Genious and I give Undertool a
5 out of 5.....superb album..
Free Music Review: A wonderful, touching, and chilling CD Hit: 5 Stars
Tool is amazing. They write complex, emotional music, never sound corny, and they can flat-out run a chill down your spine. This particular album is more of a straight rock approach to their brand of music, as opposed to the heavy distortion of Ænima. It's tough to comapre the two albums because of this difference, but one thing I can pick out is that I like the bass better on Undertow. It is used to great effect; one example of this is on "Intolerence", where the bass keeps the flow of the song together, allowing the guitar to play more complicated and varied riffs. The vocals by Keenan are simply astounding : he can sing soft and beautifully, and conversely go all out and yell. During all of the yelling, however, he never sounds untalented; he is able to keep the high quality of his voice. That's very rare to find these days. And last but certainly not least, Danny Carey's heart-pounding drums are able to pick a song up from a slow melody to all out rage and then slow it back down again. If they continue on the path that Undertow and Ænima have beaten out for them, their new album (which is rumored to have been in production since October '99) will be something special indeed.
Free Music Review: Pink Floyd the previous TOOL. Hit: 5 Stars
People say that TOOL is the next Pink Floyd well I think that Pink Floyd was the previous TOOL. Anyways this review is on Undertow. Undertow is a perfect example of art-rock at its ultimate best. Released during the same year as Opiate I believe that Undertow is another step up the TOOL ladder that gets more ingenius as it goes on. With their extremely radio unfriendly lyrics and music it's amazing people know of them today but fortunately they've been recognized for what they do and not what they don't do i.e. Limp Bizkit. This album requires a deep listening to and not a listen to in the car while driving 60 mph and maybe you will begin to grasp the creativity of TOOL which would be true for all of their albums. The cynical lyrics of Opiate seemed to have been pushed aside for some really really deep lyrics that obviously couldn't be held in anymore by Maynard. But it's not the lyrics that's important its the music. It's an unbelievable album if you do not have this album or their other two than you are not alive and you might as well continue watching trl. But I don't think you would be reading TOOL reviews if you're a trl fan so atleast you're on the right track. peace.
Free Music Review: Introspective, powerful, and straight-edged! Hit: 5 Stars
This album is what hard rock is all about. My first sampling of Tool came almost 5-6 years ago, when I first heard Sober. I borrowed a copy of Undertow from a friend for a while, but unfortunately, I listened primarly to Sober and Prison Sex, not bothering to give the other tracks a chance. I rediscovered Tool's music a few years ago after hearing Stinkfist and buying Aenima. I have to say that out of the 3 albums, Undertow blows the other two away. Opiate is an auspicious debut, but lacks focus, and Aenima is more of a wandering into darker, murkier themes and tones. Undertow combines the best elements of both these albums, and strips away the unwanted bits. Tool's sound is especially helped by Paul D'Amour's outstanding bass talent (it's a shame he left prior to Aenima; Justin's playing is good, but not nearly at the same level); his playing is both rhythmic and melodic, something not many other bassists can do and do well. Standout songs include the haunting Sober, ultra-agressive and pounding Crawl Away, and the epic soul-searching Flood. Overall, Maynard's extreme vocal talent, backed by some of the best musicians in the business, makes for a landmark musical experience.
