Free Music Review: All 5 Stars and Stripes for Top Gun Soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

The memories of Top Gun for me were Kelly McGillis and Kelly McGillis ( oh yeah, the soundtrack was just as awesome, too)! Also,I can't forget that the c.d medium was only three or four years old and MTV was at it's peak with soundtrack videos.

Top Gun was like the upgraded version of the Flashdance soundtrack; A little more rock and more pulse. I remember friends scoffing at me for buying Flashdance; It wasn't a cool guy soundtrack to buy. Then, three years later, Top Gun came out and the music was very much any young guy's dream to fly with the best and appreciate his gender. Even the ballads were not just chick songs; Everybody loved them.Take My Breath Away from Berlin was one of their more memorable hits (sadly, their last). I was never a Kenny Loggins fan, but with the right music, lyrics, and producer his contributions were very well accepted. Almost forgot that Miami Sound Machine and Teena Marie were on a hot streak with their own hits; Adding them to the Top Gun soundtrack roster was a major plus. The added bonus tracks on the Expanded Edition are timeless and treasured classics (minus the Jellybean Re-Mix and Harold Faltermeyer instrumental). For what it's worth this was one helluva ride back in '86 and ongoing. Too commercialized ? ...Nah ! Top Gun ( Expanded Edition) gets all the Stars and Stripes it deserves for the music and great memories as a teenager in the mid 80's !

Free Music Review: Eighties memories at their best
Hit: 5 Stars

The music: Out of the thousands of soundtracks produced, Top Gun is the one many people pick as their favorite. Full of the signature sound of the eighties, this album contains such smash hits as Take My Breath Away, Danger Zone, and Heaven In Your Eyes. In fact, not one of the songs on this disc fails to live up to its potential, from the seductive Lead Me On to the rocky Playing With The Boys to the haunting Destination Unknown. The Top Gun Anthem, a stirring instrumental, is one of my personal favorites. Also included on this album are Jerry Lee Lewis's Great Balls Off Fire, Otis Redding's The Dock Of The Bay, the Righteous Brothers's You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, and a dance remix of Playing With The Boys.

The booklet: A long unfolding affair with all the lyrics printed clearly, even if some in Hot Summer Nights are incorrect (I'm not quite sure what happened there!). It also contains "A Musical Conversation With Jerry Bruckheimer," an interview with the movie's producer in which he answers questions about the secret to his success, the ease of putting together a multi-artist pop soundtrack back in the eighties, being Tom Cruise's springboard, and more. On the other side of the unfolded strip are nine color photographs of the lead actors in Top Gun.

In summary: A brilliant and poignant and thoroughly American classic. Sure to complement any collection.

Free Music Review: Fabulous songs from a fabulous movie
Hit: 5 Stars

Kenny Loggins and company done good on this soundtrack from the 1980's blockbuster movie. The music, so essential to the film, stands alone very well as a soundtrack and is a classic collection.

Loggins two contributions are among the best on the album. You can almost see the F-14's taking off from the carrier during the opening song "Danger Zone", or Tom Cruise swatting the volleyball on "Playing with the Boys". Berlin adds the love theme with the beautiful "Take My Breath Away", and Cheap Trick scores big with "Mighty Wings". Also included on the extended soundtrack are several songs that were vital to the progression of the film, yet not included on the original soundtrack such as Otis Redding's "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay", Jerry Lee Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire", and "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers. Their additions rights a serious ommission and completes the soundtrack.

The remastering really does justice to the songs, and this compilation of great music is complemented by extended liner notes featuring extra photographs and all of the lyrics. (gotta love the extras). All told this is a great collection of rock songs, and a must have soundtrack.

Free Music Review: The ultimate 80's movie soundtrack
Hit: 5 Stars

As a kid I have always loved eighties films like Top gun, flight of the navigator etc but the soundtrack for this film has always stood out. Full of eighties power rock, and the old movie soundtrack favourite(Kenny Loggins), it just takes you back to that time when everything celluoid was so much better back then.

Danger zone is sometimes the only reason why I would watch the film, the opening titles come on with the the atmospheric Faltermeyer score then danger zone blares out. Turn the dvd system right up........awesome!!

Playing with the boys is always fun to listen to, especially accompanied by a greased up Val Kilmer and midget jem tom cruise.

One of my favourite songs will always be sitting on the dock of the bay by otis redding and was so glad when they included it in the bonus tracks.
Take my breath away will always remind me of the cheesist love scene I have ever seen, its the only let down of the film. all billowing curtains and soft lighting.

Everyone who was young during that time and whom love the film should own this soundtrack. Its just the best

Free Music Review: One of the best albums of 1986!
Hit: 5 Stars

On this soundtrack album to what is Tom Cruise's third starring film and first blockbuster,is,on my CD copy, the original 10-track line-up. It begins with DANGER ZONE,Kenny Loggins' first megahit since 1984's FOOTLOOSE,from the soundtrack album of the same title. He also performs PLAYING WITH THE BOYS. Cheap Trick performs MIGHTY WINGS. Lovergirl Teena Marie performs LEAD ME ON which rocks hard. The love theme performed by Berlin is TAKE MY BREATH AWAY. HOT SUMMER NIGHTS,performed by Miami Sound Machine, sounds cool. Another love song, this one a powerful ballad,is HEAVEN IN YOUR EYES,performed by Loverboy. That would make an excellent title for a cotillion or prom. THROUGH THE FIRE was performed by the almost unknown Larry Greene. Marietta, another almost unknown artist, performs DESTINATION UNKNOWN,not to be confused with the song recorded by Missing Persons. The TOP GUN ANTHEM is an instrumental piece recorded by Harold Faltermeyer, who wrote music for the "Beverly Hills Cop" trilogy, and Steve Stevens.
