Free Music Notes for Top Gun SoundtrackFree Music Review: TOP GUN TOP HITS Hit: 5 StarsThere is no need to explain why this album is the highest selling soundtrack of all time nor is there a need to explain why it important that everyone needs it in their cd collection get it own it. there is no shame in the DANGER ZONE.
Free Music Review: Top knotch soundtrack with hits galore Hit: 5 Stars In the summer on 1986, a plucky little movie titled Top Gun soared into the movies theaters and into our hearts. By today's standards the movie's pretty tame, but back then you and your friends were calling each other Maverick and Goose and dreaming of going to Top Gun school to fly an F-14 fighter jet. My memories a little hazy about the specifics of the film, but who could forget its hit cast of Val Kilmer, Meg Ryan, Anthony Edwards, and that short guy there. You know the one that lip-synched in his underwear in Risky Business. What the hell was his name? Just as impressive as the cast, was the movies soundtrack. It seems that back in the eighties movie soundtracks were always packed with hits. Maybe it was because when an artist did a song for a movie, they didn't release it on their own album too.
Okay, looking back a "Danger Zone" I do have to admit that it's really cheesy. Back then though, Kenny Loggins was the man. He was the coolest, bearded, middle-aged man with a leather bomber jacket in rock music. The pulsing synth intro sucks you in while the arena rock guitars illicit images of the jets taking off from an air craft carrier. The piercing guitar riff with have you mimicking along on air guitar. I didn't even realize that it was Cheap trick that sis the power-pop anthem "Mighty Wings". I think this one played during the closing credits. The high-energy, synth heavy, melodic track just sends you on an emotional high. The lost Kenny Loggins hit "Playing with the Boys" appeared during the volleyball scene I believe. This track is driven by percussion and Loggins powerful voice.
"Take My Breath Away", which was recently butchered by Jessica Simpson, was the quintessential love song of the mid-eighties. Sadly it turned a rather racy rock group into sappy balladeers; and alas, one-hit-wonders. Miami Sound Machine was just starting to break when the contributed "Hot Summer Nights". The sing is loaded with their trademark Latin rhythms and Gloria's smooth vocals. There's more than one sappy ballad on this soundtrack. Loverboy's "Heaven In Your Eyes" starts with a synth/vocal verse that concludes with a power chorus. An ominous church bell signals the beginning of the "Top Gun Anthem". Fuzzy guitars and an edgy guitar lick is laid down over pre-programmed drum tracks. A few years back they released a Special Extended Edition of the soundtrack that included five more songs from the movie; to include "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling.
The Verdict
Top knotch soundtrack with hits galore. Now where's my flight jacket?
Free Music Review: Well...If that does not pump you up for the day...what will? Hit: 5 StarsThe best. Numero uno. Incredible. A blast. A rockin' classic. A kick b...t attitude. The list goes on. American rock as its best when you want to be in an action mood.
Free Music Review: It's worthy of a listen Hit: 4 StarsThis is a pretty decent album. Personally, I think it has
too much pop music. But there are a handful of good tunes
on here. Dangerzone is one of the best soundtrack songs
IMO.... It's good music to work out to it gets the blood
pumping for sure. Another good track "You've Lost That
Lovin' Feeling" and of course we have "Great Balls of
Fire" but my favorite is the instrumental! Sure it's
alittle repetitive, but I appericate the good music. The
rest of the album is pretty hit or miss... You have
"Mighty Wings" by Cheaptrick that is pretty good... Then
you have overrated songs like "Take my Breath away" just
totally lame in my book. I'd say it's a classic as far
as soundtracks go... Just stay away from the poppy tunes
because they stink.
Free Music Review: Is this a Madonna album? I still don't like it today! Hit: 1 StarsThis isn't about the updated version, but about the original 1986 album that I heard in 1994. While I liked Kenny Loggins "Danger Zone" and its loud rock guitars and Berlin"s "Take my Breath Away" (which Jessica Simpson remade in 2004--Jessica, I liked your version, but it's no contest to Berlin's original), the rest of the album is complete JUNK! It mostly sounds like a Madonna album to me, some of her fun dance pop. Did the people who made this album say "Okay, let's copy some stuff or parts of Madonna's True Blue album (which came out at around the same time in '86)and make an album out of it?" Marietta's song sounds so much like Madonna's Into The Groove from '85. It sold all those millions of albums the same year that Tom Cruise's movie was a hit in '86. Yet a lot of this stuff isn't that good. Only Kenny Loggins, Berlin and the Loverboy power ballad are the best songs. The other 7 songs from the original 10-song album from 1986 are just lousy. Even the Greene song and Cheap Trick song sound EXACTLY like Kenny Loggins' Danger Zone with the charged up rock guitars--too many similarities. Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine don't sound good at all here with her song--her other songs are far better than this. And Kenny Loggins' Playing With the Boys copies his '84 hit Footloose way too much. But the shoddy rock and the blatant copying of Madonna's dance formula are all too obvious on this album. One of the worst soundtrack albums I've ever heard! They flew Air Force jets over this lame music in that movie?! Even Madonna wouldn't have liked this album either!
