Free Music Notes for Top Gun SoundtrackFree Music Review: A must have Hit: 5 StarsNot only did the anthem win a grammy, many thanks to Steve STevens(probably the best underrated guitarist). but the soundtrack has all the essentials. its a great cd to have and you can sing along to all the songs
Free Music Review: "Cuz there's no points for second best..." Hit: 5 StarsIn 1986, "Top Gun" took the world by storm with its somewhat likeable cast, completely unrealistic but fun dogfight scenes, and its very-80s soundtrack. Harold Faltermeyer composed the score for the film (which Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer previously worked with him on "Beverly Hills Cop") and a handful of artists performed the many songs that have become 80s staples. Many have called this the best 80s soundtrack; that might be up for debate, BUT this soundtrack is still great! A 5-star gem and an all-time classic. Now, let's go "through the fire" and take a look at the tracklist:Danger Zone, performed by Kenny Loggins - Obviously, the most popular song on the album and one of the best. Ironically, Kenny wasn't the original choice for this song and he was last minute. Who would've thought that this would become his biggest staple? Mighty Wings, performed by Cheap Trick - GREAT SONG, and the only one Harold Faltermeyer wrote (he would use some of the instrumentation from this song and put it with his score). This is by far my favorite track on this soundtrack, although it sounds quite different from Cheap Trick's other songs. Playing with the Boys, performed by Kenny Loggins - While far from bad, I never quite got into this song. Still pleasurable to listen to, however. Kenny also co-wrote this song. Lead Me On, performed by Teena Marie - Pretty good pop tune, Teena Marie has some top-notch vocals here. This one took a while for me to enjoy, but let it grow on you and you can see why it's good. Take My Breath Away, performed by Berlin - Often titled the "Love Theme" from Top Gun, this quite good. The mood of the song combined with great vocals brings us a great romantic ballad. This, of course, is one of the huge hits from the soundtrack. You can't go through life without hearing this. Hot Summer Nights, performed by Miami Sound Machine - I was never a huge fan of Miami Sound Machine, but this one of the few of theirs I personally enjoyed. Heaven in your Eyes, performed by Loverboy - Loverboy IS AWESOME, and this song is a GREAT ballad. I really like this song, even above Berlin's famous love theme (and that's saying a lot because it's still a great song)! It was often said that this song almost ruined their career; doesn't make sense, given its great quality. Oh well. Through the Fire, performed by Larry Greene - A great track with some great guitarmanship! Larry's career never really seemed to take flight, which is quite a shame. If you've never heard of him, I can't blame you, since if it weren't for this soundtrack and "Over the Top," I wouldn't have ever heard of this guy. Destination Unknown, performed by Marietta - A mellower track from another "unknown" artist (Ha, couldn't resist!). This one goes by as rather underrated, which is rather a shame because this is a pretty good song. Top Gun Anthem, performed by Harold Faltermeyer with Steve Stevens - I didn't lie, this is SCORE from the film, as opposed to a song. He wrote this with guitarist Steve Stevens, who if you can recall, he played with Billy Idol. A VERY recognizable anthem and one of my favorite pieces of music that I can play on the guitar! ~BONUS TRACKS~ Dock of the Bay, performed by Otis Redding - They included this because this was Maverick's mother's favorite song. It's only mentioned in the film, so I somewhat find this questionable to be included. Oh well, no complaints. Memories, performed by Harold Faltermeyer - A piece of score from the movie, this is played when Maverick is mourning the death of Goose. This is a good piece of music, although I WISHED THAT THEY INCLUDED THE DOGFIGHT MUSIC AS WELL. That's my only real complaint with this album, actually. Great Balls of Fire, performed by Jerry Lee Lewis - Technically, you hear this song in the film when Maverick and Goose perform it! Still, this track is a great piece of the past, so I have absolutely no complaints with it being a bonus track. You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling, performed by The Righteous Brothers - Again, you hear it in the movie when Maverick, Goose, and a whole plethora of people perform it. But of course, this is CLASSIC. I'm glad this was included. Playing with the Boys (Dance Mix), performed by Kenny Loggins - A dance remix of the song, but for some odd reason, I actually like this more than the original! I usually don't like the remix as much as the original, but this is a huge exception. This is one of the few commercially successful soundtracks that actually strengthens the film. I love this album greatly, and it is a definite 80s rock CLASSIC. If you're an 80s fan that hates this, I don't care what your reason is, YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY AND UNDENIABLY WRONG. This helped DEFINE the 80s, and created itself to be a pop culture icon. This is a great soundtrack of a great film. No rock collection is complete without this.
Free Music Review: Top Gun Hit: 5 StarsAll I have to say is this soundtrack is sooooo mighty classic. It's 80's to the fullest. Just look at the classic Tom Cruise cover, you know you wanna buy that. Best tracks in my opinion are "Danger Zone" and "Playing With The Boys". This is the best Sountrack made for crusing around in your ride. Just buy it, its classic, nuff said.
Free Music Review: Fabulous songs from a fabulous movie Hit: 5 StarsKenny Loggins and company done good on this soundtrack from the 1980's blockbuster movie. The music, so essential to the film, stands alone very well as a soundtrack and is a classic collection.Loggins two contributions are among the best on the album. You can almost see the F-14's taking off from the carrier during the opening song "Danger Zone", or Tom Cruise swatting the volleyball on "Playing with the Boys". Berlin adds the love theme with the beautiful "Take My Breath Away", and Cheap Trick scores big with "Mighty Wings". Also included on the extended soundtrack are several songs that were vital to the progression of the film, yet not included on the original soundtrack such as Otis Redding's "Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay", Jerry Lee Lewis's "Great Balls of Fire", and "You've Lost that Loving Feeling" by the Righteous Brothers. Their additions rights a serious ommission and completes the soundtrack. The remastering really does justice to the songs, and this compilation of great music is complemented by extended liner notes featuring extra photographs and all of the lyrics. (gotta love the extras). All told this is a great collection of rock songs, and a must have soundtrack.
Free Music Review: Top Album Hit: 5 StarsThis classic soundtrack is one of the best. It has all of the original artist songs from the movie which bring the scenes instantly back inside your head. It didn't used to have the Great balls of Fire song sung by Anthony Edwards (Goose) or the one Tom Cruise sung to Kelly McGillis. Those songs would being included now have made this an immortal album. This fast songs album is a great one to have when driving long distances on empty roads as it makes your journey fly by. The big songs Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins and Berlin's sensational love song Take My Breath Away can be found on many 80's compilation albums but really flow when put together with the other songs on this album. All the songs on this one are great, you don't need to memory any of them out like on most soundtracks. The lyrics are also included on the cover insert for all of the songs if you like singing along.
