Free Music Review: A Fitting Close To The Atlantic Years
Hit: 5 Stars

With a wealth of material from the period with Atlantic/East West it was always deemed virtually impossible to select tracks for a retrospective that would please Toriphiles.

It was Tori's intention to release a compilation after Choirgirl Hotel which would include hard-to-find b-sides along with a smattering of live tracks plus a couple of new songs. That album ended up becoming To Venus And Back, as the new material kept on coming.

It is possible that had that original retrospective seen the light of day, that Tales Of a Librarian may not have ended up in the way it has done.

I for one am pleased that instead of allowing Atlantic to cobble their own 'best of' which would have undoubtedly revolved around the standards 'Silent', 'Spark', 'Cornflake' and 'Lite Sneeze' we get something that has obviously been deconstructed very carefully and given some considerable thought. Tori Amos obviously cares enough about her 'girls' to ensure that any 'best of' compilation truly bears a collection of songs that sum up her journey, as opposed to a collection of songs that earn their place on the record because of chart positions.

I'm pleased that this collection gives us so much more than the singles. Even down to the beautiful artwork and packaging, this is a record that the artist is undoubtedly proud of. As a fan, I am also proud to own it.

Free Music Review: tales of a relationship
Hit: 5 Stars

my relationship with tori has been a spotty one. i was merely a causual fan not the hardcore. but then tvab came out and i soon became hooked but in doing so i went down a deep dark road that i hope i may never have to go through again. i eventually got out of it when i met my signficant other. but i also grew from tori as well. the tales of a relationship is about my relationship with my bf. having just bought the new tori amos collection i am taken back to 2001 when things were better. i remember all the good times and all the fun. this cd is perect in almost every way. and although i am no longer the tori fan i once was i still love this cd. the best thing about this cd is how every one the songs, apart from the new ones, are reworked. some completely reworked. take bliss. the new version is much better. i love all these tracks execept for angel. that track is just alright. a terrific highlight on an excellent tenure at atlantic. funny how this cd comes out now ending her time at atlantic just as my time with my bf is starting to close. for now though. i have the faith that we will be together again. and this collection reminds me of the very reasons that i know we will be together and the very reasons i loved tori. they are both old and deareast friends and it is so good to hear the voice of an old friend.

Free Music Review: The Librarian Picks a Winner
Hit: 5 Stars

Tori Amos' new release, Tales of a Librarian, is a must-have for both Tori fans of old and those who want to know more about Miss Amos. With eighteen re-mastered tracks and two newly released songs, this album packs quite the punch. Songs from the past are revitalized with once-buried strings brought to the forefront, and vocals that are stronger and clearer. New tracks are dazzling in that they show Amos' ever-increasing style and ability. Tori herself cites this effort as a sonic autobiography of her life, from playing in bars as a teenager to her miscarriages in later life, to where she is as of now. Longtime fans will learn more and newcomers will be hooked immediately.

The bonus DVD included in an edition of the album is needed for any Tori fan, as it shows Tori in the quiet moments during a soundcheck before a concert. Just the piano and its mistress, playing to an empty hall. Also included on the DVD are picture gallery slideshows that play over instrumental versions of two of Amos' songs.

All in all, the album is a must-have for any Tori fan in your life (if they haven't already bought it for themselves!), and for any would-be Tori fan. With twenty tracks from which to choose, based on a life that has seen its share of amazing things, I recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Free Music Review: An Amazing Compilation by An Amazing Woman
Hit: 5 Stars

This "collective" effort by Tori, is quite Astonishing. She has failed to lose my interest over the years, by constantly and consistently keeping her music fresh, inspiring, and a delight to the ears.
Ablight these tracks are not ALL of her best tracks, The standards are there (Crucify, Cornflake Girl, God), and she treats every track to a re-freshing new mix. So, in effect, it is like hearing the songs all over again.
Tori's Catalog, being as extensive as it is (100's of songs), to narrow it to 20 would be quite a difficult feat. But, she has managed to give a new listener a "taste" of what this musical genious is capable of producing. Hopefully, having them begging for more, so as they go and introduce themselves to her many works over the years.
For Older Tori fans, it's also a treat in that the album contains 2 brand new tracks, and 2 re-mixed B-sides. (Always a hot commodity in the tori world). Tori fans, I believe, Will NEVER be happy until she releases that ever eluding "B-sides" Album! I know I won't be =)
So, This retrospective is a well-crafted piece of work, down to the album artwork and packaging. Showing that the "Flame-Haired Goddess" of the Piano, still burns as bright as ever.

Free Music Review: Tori Amos, Angels, Snow Cherries From France
Hit: 5 Stars

Tori Amos. Wow. She continues to astound, she is the most talented singer songwriter in the musix biz today. Here on her last recording with Atlantic, she shines. It's basically a compilation of her greatest songs on one disk, with a bonus of two brand new tracks ( Angels, Snow Cherries From France) and a free DVD. Tori fans have been waiting for years to hear Snow Cherries from France ever since Neil Gaimon of the Sandman Comic series wrote about it in his online journal in 1996. To hear it is magical. Her lyric on Snow Cherries From France" That summer we travelled the world never even leaving his own back garden."
The song "Angels" is heavenly.
"The angels liberate your dreamscape til you can't remember to recall where your wings have gone..."
With classics like "Silent All These Years" and "Cornflake Girl" on here, this album is in a league of it's own. Tori Amos is the eternal mermaid, with a voice that will continue to enchant for years to come. And when we are all dust, this album will still be here. And people will still be listening to it because it's simply that good.
Enchanting songstresses of our day; Tori Amos, Corinna Fugate, Sara McLachlan, Fiona Apple, Paula Cole, enchanting...
