Free Music Review: Greatest Hits is Refreshing and Well Overdue
Hit: 5 Stars

With Tori Amos' only Greastest Hits album in her 12 year rock star exsistence, not only the classic fans will be impressed but also new fans will appreciate this effort. I admire the fact that Tori waited to actually acquire a few hits before she attempted to make a greatest hits and managed to throw a few new tunes at us in a contemporary and pleasing fashion. Not only is this stuff radio friendly it's also a show case of quite an impressive career of a classically trained pianist. With her previous release selling more than ever fans alike deserve this collection of who she is and has come to be. This is great morning, noon, and night music, and is apporpriate for any age. I reccomend this album to anyone who is willing to be touched by a muse who knows how to create a rythmically complicated song with a catchy melody. The remixes are engineered to a T and give the impression that you are at a live concert. There are also a few hidden tracks uncovered in classic songs such as Crucify and Way Down. The instrumentation is altered in a few tracks giving a new flavor to Tori's already popular songs. I would recommend this album to just about anyone who can appreciate a good musician and a good recording.

Free Music Review: Tales of a Toriphile
Hit: 5 Stars

Being a true Toriphile I have just about everything Tori has ever recorded. This album has proven to be a welcomed addition to my collection. The wide range of songs from various points in her musical career offer a listening experience peppered with every musical element Tori implemented and recorded along the journey her music has taken and somehow made them even better. Songs that I have heard at least 1000 times before such as "Precious Things" and "Winter" feel fresh and I find myself listening to them as if I had never heard them before. The B-sides on the album provide a glimpse of her more obscure work to those who may not have been exposed to anything other than what is heard on the radio as well as giving us Toriphiles the tracks we have enjoyed all along that no one else really knew about. Tori is a musical genius that speaks deeply to many people on many levels, this album offers a snapshot of her talent that is above reproach and a is meaningful addition to any CD collection. This is a great CD to buy for a first time listener as well as the enamored fan. It is well worth the money and the bonus DVD is the icing on the cake.

Free Music Review: It's good for diehard fans.
Hit: 5 Stars

"Tales Of a Librarian" is NOT a greatest hits album. It just sums up her work with Atlantic Records since she left that label after "Strange Little Girls."
The songs are remastered and/or remixed so reguardless of what other people might say, this isn't the album you should start with. Get "Little Earthquakes" and go on from there. The remastered versions are good, but don't particularly improve on the originals immaculately. I think they're just nice to have for Tori fanatics like me. It is a very beautiful collection though. The two new songs "Angels" & "Snow Cherries From France" are great additions to her archives. But if it actually were a greatest hits, it would look something like this:

01. Silent All These Years
02. Cornflake Girl
03. Winter
04. Spark
05. Precious Things
06. God
07. Caught a Lite Sneeze
08. Professional Widow
09. Raspberry Swirl
10. Jackie's Strength
11. China
12. 1,000 Oceans
13. Past the Mission
14. Talula
15. Glory Of The '80s
16. Hey Jupiter
17. Crucify
18. Me and a Gun
19. Bliss
20. Pretty Good Year

Free Music Review: Tori Amos is my goddess
Hit: 5 Stars

I have been reading mixed reviews on this album, and chose to state my opinion. Tales of a Librarian is a interesting little collection. And I think when people heard of this album, they expected a "best of" or "greatest hits". But this album is more of a autobiographical journey in the life and career of this amazing artist. Listening to this album, is like meeting a old friend, that you havn't seen in awhile, they have grown. Previously when I heard about this album. I was curious how each track would sound since they have been "reworked/remixed/reconditioned" and I have to say that there great. The vocals are more clearer, and the background strings in "Winter, Baker Baker, etc" have been more upfront and enhanced. The reworking of these tracks have created the songs more powerful. But only thetrack that I have not been to happy about is "Proffessional Widow". Don't get me wrong, I love the Boys for Pele version of "Proffessional Widow" ! But the remix stands way out, like a sore thumb. But overall this album is very good, and I love reworking of the songs, they work very well ! Go buy it !

Free Music Review: Dark but beautiful
Hit: 5 Stars

This is only my fourth album I have of Tori Amos. I must say that I enjoyes it a lot. I'm not too fond of best of collections because they usually miss out putting in what deserve to be in them.

The difference with Tori Amos is that all her songs are brilliant! The album starts of with Precious Things. A wonderful track to start off with to introduce any new listener to Tori Amos. The signaturish Tori Amos instrumentation, and lilts as well as the dark sounds of her Goth influences are cleverly weaved into this first track. Some of my favourite tracks here are Winter, Cornflake Girl, God, Mr Zebra, Baker Baker, Crucify and Jackie's Strength. I thought it could have been a longer album though. Tori has so many brilliant songs that could have made the cut for this album. Pretty Good Year should have been one of them. There are no songs here from Scarlet's Walk (her latest album, excluding this). Scarlet's Walk was a really good album, and there are some extremely good songs in that that could have been included.

In a nutshell, just one disc isn't enough for a Tori Amos collection. I wanted to hear more after this CD.
