Even if you already own Tori Amos' entire musical library 'Tales of a Librarian' will not disappoint! It is the definitive collection of her lifelong work and shows how truly versitile a musician she has become. Tori has reworked many of her hit songs and given them new life. Classic songs like, "Winter" and "Silent All These Years" demonstrate her haunting, rich vocals, while other songs like "Precious Things" and "Take to the Sky" offer up a few new musical twists. Her surprising electroclashic-remix of "Professional Widow" and the addition of two totally new songs, "Angels" and "Snow cherries from France," are spectacular! This CD is suitable for the seasoned fan as well as anyone looking to know more about Tori's wonderful music. It is a sure fire addition to anyone's CD collection.
Free Music Review: A must buy for avid Tori fans and newcomers alike! Hit: 5 Stars
I, along with my sister and 3 of our cousins as well as many friends are avid Tori Amos fans. We've all been to numerous of her concerts, and each and every one of us owns every CD Tori has ever put out. I must say, this is her absolute best yet. All of our favorite songs, mine being Tear in Your Hand, a sad and beautiful song, as well as God and Precious things, are all on this Cd, as well as my sister's all time favorite, Winter. Numerous classics have been re-done, including Cornflake Girl, another great one. She has used her insight and added age and talent to make them better than before. Of course, every Tori song is great, but the essentials are all on this cd, and the new songs introduced on this album are amazing as well. From the opening piano chords of Precious Things to the last moments of Snow Cherries From France, this album is bound to send you through an emotional rollercoaster, where the songs are Tori's memoirs put to music. This is Tori's life, the autobiography of a modern singer-songwriter, philosopher, poet, and master of the magic of music.
Free Music Review: Quintessential Tori Hit: 5 Stars
Tales Of A Librarian, once you get past the strange title, is a motley, 20-song collection commemorating the best of Ms. Amos. It's refreshing, mostly for this reason: Every Tori album rather has its own genre, and most of the songs take on a certain tinge -To Venus And Back is more electronica, Scarlet's Walk more pop, Little Earthquakes more seventies-influenced. Tales Of A Librarian includes songs from all her mini-genres, from pop to punk to piano. It also includes four new songs -Angels, Mary, Sweet Dreams, and Snow Cherries From France. Mary is arguably the best new song, with Sweet Dreams following closely behind. The beat-heavy, late-80s sound of the latter makes it easy to imagine it fitting right in on Little Earthquakes.
I can imagine I would enjoy this album more had it included Pretty Good Year, my favorite Tori song of all time, and I say this truly because I own copies of all her albums. But the songs it does include -Bliss, Tear In Your Hand, God, Precious Things are standouts-are reflective of a long and rich career in music.
Free Music Review: amazing but needing a few songs.... Hit: 5 Stars
As all Greatest Hits cds turn out, the hardcore fans will always say "....BUT THEY MISSED [insert fave song here]" i guess i am no exception, being raised on Tori Amos and Smashing Pumpkins, I guess you could call me a "hardcore" fan of both of them...and i think they are both lacking. So enough about that, heres my list of possible missing songs: -Father Lucifer (so controversial) -Caught a lite sneeze -Hey Jupiter -A sorta fairytale -Raspberry swirl -Cruel -Winter -Bliss -I can't see New York (another controversial) -JuarezAs for redone songs, Playboy Mommy has been perfected if thats possible and Professional Widow is interesting.....listen to it enough times and you will like it. Snow Cherries from France is my favourite unreleased song played on this album...why didn't she ever add this to any of her studio albums? Its worth listening to. All and all, this cd is worth every penny...I will play it until my copy of the cd dies or cd players die first. haha enjoy!
Free Music Review: Beautiful Tales of a Librarian Hit: 5 Stars
Tori's "Best Of" collection is not just another "Best Of" CD... She remastered and reconditioned all of her tracks, re-recorded two ultra-rare b-sides ("Mary" and "Sweet Dreams"), and added two new songs ("Angels" and the stunning "Sweet Cherries From France"!). The packaging and the design of this CD + DVD is amazing. The additional DVD features 3 live songs ("Pretty Good Year", "Northern Lad", and "Honey") recorded during sound check of her last tour, plus 2 additional songs in 5.1 Surround Sound ("Putting The Damage On" and "Mr. Zebra" - with an extesive photo gallery). The CD itself includes some of Tori's biggest hits: "Crucify", "God", "Cornflake Girl", and the very popular dance version of "Professional Widow" done by Amrand van Helden. Overall this is a must for any Tori fan or a fan of great music. The remastered songs sound wonderful!!!
